Hey guys, got the 60 out for a little stroll for lunch today. 15 miles total. The last 2 miles acceleration became slow and I realized that the brakes were dragging even though my foot wasn’t on the pedal. The pedal also became very stiff. All 4 corners extremely hot… (fronts more than the rear) and excessive pressure in the lines… I’ve had the vehicle for 4 months and what I’ve done so far to the brake system;

New reman calipers
New pads
Checked adjustment on master cylinder with H shaped break adjustment tool.

Once the car cooled down the brake pedal was softer and I could depress it all the way. I jacked the truck up and notice some slight dragging on both fronts. I then cracked the lines open about a half a turn at the master cylinder and they spun freely.

Am I looking at a booster problem?
I planned on buying the city racer double diaphragm or just going fj80 with new master cylinder.

I just don’t need this happening again with my 10 month old in the car. We got out and walked but with brakes that hot and any sort of leak I have nightmares of it burning up.

Yikes. Could be multiple issues.

Would look at rears not being adjusted correctly. Would look at fronts being frozen closed.

Would also look at MC. I would think that’s a bigger issue than booster.

But there’s probably people better versed than me to chime in.

What made you want to check that? Was it suspicious somehow? Did you do any adjusting then? I wonder if maybe the booster is not allowing the master cylinder piston to withdraw fully. If you can re-create the dragging in your driveway, see if loosening the master from the booster relieves it.

The day I bought it and trailered it home it locked up coming off the trailer but it quickly broke loose. I sort of just started checking stuff. It didn’t need any adjustment.

As I was checking things (when I bought it) I found that the driver side caliper was stuck and probably 30 years old. That’s why I replaced both calipers.

Sounds like you still have some air in the system. What happens is the air expands in the lines in the engine bay etc , causing the symptoms you describe. Once the lines have cooled, the brakes free up.

I had a similar issue after replacing everything on my brakes except the master cylinder. Brakes would seize after a short drive. It seems the master cylinder can fail both ways, either no brakes at all or no release of brakes. I replaced my master cylinder and have had no problems since. I got mine from @cruisermatt
