Happens all the time in Albuquerque - they cut one out of my '93 4-Runner about 5 years ago.

I had the cat stolen off of my old 4Runner about 6 years ago while I was at work. Came out to go to lunch and instantly knew what was up after starting the engine. Apparently they had hit up a half dozen cars in 30 minutes is what the cop said when I filed the police report. This took place in broad daylight at an office building that had security cameras.

Did you have any issues with insurance going up? Another thing I'm afraid of is them coming back for round 2 in a few weeks after fixing it. Do you think they'd chance it?

No issues with insurance and I was worried about it happening again but made out so we’ll and wasn’t too much of a hassle I got over it and haven’t had any other problems

New ones from dealer are about 1500 USD each. Aftermarket are about 200-500 USD each.

Yes, couple hundred a piece for aftermarket, nearly a grand for Toyota, plus labor to install. I think in CA the Toyota ones are the only emissions approved cats.
