So, I must say I am a big fan of the 80 series. Why I am getting one is because of the expedition style, the way it can be built up with drawers and yada yada. One thing that bugs me though, the dash (all the buttons) by the radio...I just feel it's a bad layout. Coming from a 2000 model year suv. Maybe I am just used to to newer style and being picky, but what does every one think? Or does anyone play around with it?

Huh?

The buttons work things. You want something to come on or off and you press the button. They even have words and symbols on them to make it easy. I'm being a bit of a smart a$$, but I'm not sure what you're looking for. It's a dash from a 10+ year old truck. What are you expecting?

Someone PLEASE post a pic of LX_treme's dash....:grinpimp:

Fair enough....haha. What I should have really asked was this....has anyone really changed the layout of the dash?

Still not gettin' what you're gettin' at.

Many of us have moved switches and buttons and indicators to different locations. Example, many will move the alarm LED/glass breakage sensor when installing the CDL switch. Just the installation of the CDL switch is "changing the layout of the dash." I moved the rear defog switch to the bottom row. Many will add switches and controls for things like winches, sub-tanks, CB radio, amateur radio(s), on board air systems, dual battery switching systems.... and on... and on. Maybe you should look at some of the ROTW pictures to get some ideas... but the basic dash layout stays the same.

Are you talking about a custom dash like they do for show cars and hot rods?

No, I like it. I just need more OEM switches!

You can move the buttons around in the various blank spots if you can get the harness to reach. Anything beyond that will require some nice fabrication skills.

I figure the dash in about 10 years or so will have the same dated charm that the 40 series or even 60 series now has.

I always thought of the 95 up dash as quite interesting looking.

Mine isn't boring and I have been looking at it since 1993.........:flipoff2:

The dash in my wife's GMC pickup is boring......

A dash without a tach is like a bath without soap...........

The dash is fine ....... check out the striped brown, or grey cloth trim <shudder>

gloved hands might be able to work the switches - which is indeed nice - I wish the door handles were a bit bigger tho.....the rear hatch is easy with gloves but the side doors can be a little tough....

I've always liked the dash setup....especially how it's angled toward the driver. It is very functional, which is its intended purpose.

agreed I tend to pay more attention to what is beyond the dash when I am driving anyway :flipoff2:

Put in a towel rack and then you can change the towel as the mood strikes, even several times a day!:grinpimp:

Sure, just don't drop it in the shower.....

I'm afraid anecdotes like these could go on and on.................

"Apple pie without some cheese is like a hug without the squeeze"

"A dash without a tach is like a massage without the happy ending" er nevermind:D
