Just a hint with installing the turbo blanket once the turbo is in situ. Joey supplied springs to connect the two halves of the turbo blanket together. The supplied safety wire was used to pull one end of the springs toward you and land on the pegs.

Basically, one end of the spring was landed on the peg (toward the engine) and a piece of safety wire was tied to the other end of the spring. This is done on both sides. Then the blanket went on the turbo, fished the two safety wires toward the front, pull and land on the pegs. It took about two min, no frustration buildup. Once both spring ends were landed on the pegs, use needle nose pliers to undo the safety wire and pull out.

If you prefer to use the safety wire to connect the two pegs together instead of the springs, follow the same steps above.

Has anyone with the turbo also has the York air comp? If so, can you show me a pic of the two york air hose routing please?

Thanks.

Here is my set up. But depending on your particular set up, it could be different. Doing the WE manifold, running to a front/rear tank, etc.

Thank you sir!! I have dual batts so that adds another layer of fun. I ordered heat sleeves for the two York air hoses due to their routing.

I think its time for a turbo kit update...

The plan before moving was to have everything in place to send out the next batch of turbos out by 5/15 which would have gotten me to 95% of filling back orders. Knowing the time line of some things directed when I proceeded with certain productions of the kit. The move I knew would cause me some headaches but there wasn't much I could do, the move had to happen. What I did NOT plan for is that a freaking literal pandemic would happen the EXACT same week I was trying to move. Everything went to hell.

Its been six weeks now since the move and in that time I've now had three vendors completely shut down their businesses permanently. A few of the remaining vendors have eliminated all staff and running the business solo. Going from 15 employees to zero MIGHT have an affect on production. Now lets add to all that with the fact that a mother-f'ing tornado destroyed one of BorgWarner's warehouses in South Carolina. It was confirmed today finally that the turbo I use was directly impacted. They are currently in the middle of inspecting, repackaging and moving all of their inventory.

There are 75 components (105 pieces in total) that comprise the turbo kit. Of those there are a few pieces that are hindering the remaining turbos from being shipped:
• J-pipes- These are all cut and bent and in various stages of welding. Due to the virus the pipe shop has a skeleton crew that is focused on COVID related contracts so my stuff has to wait til they are done with emergency COVID jobs
• Nameplate- These get welded onto the J-pipe but totally not necessary to have a working turbo. But since I already had these in process I wanted them done. Issue was my usual shop closed their doors. Found a new shop 2000 miles away that had some free time to work these in and I jumped on it. They are done and in transit to the pipe shop for eventual welding
• A/C bracket- these were also in production and were cut but not bent nor had the hardware been pressed in. This was with my usual shop which closed and moved to new shop. This is done and on its way to powder coat.
• Downpipes- these are 95% done but the last thing waiting is the lower V-band fitting. The shop that makes them has a long delay to supply until the lockdown is lifted. The pipe shop suggested a different manufacturer for the V-bands (Vibrant) but I am 100% against that because then it means there are major differences that would be out in production and it would make securing replacement parts a nightmare. Sorry, I'm not doing that to myself nor to an eventual customer with a mythical problem 5 years from now.
• Downpipe clamp bracket- these were also with my old shop. Moved to new shop and should be ready in two weeks,
• Turbo and downpipe blankets- PTP got the orders from their local Austin city gov't to close so all orders all on hold for the time being. Of course I'm on that list.
• Aluminum Intake Tubes- two of the three pieces are done but the third, they one with the vent tube requiring welding, is not done and won't be until things start up again.
• Denso spark plugs- these are just generally delayed coming from Japan. Everything I've needed coming from Japan has now been taking on average 3x as long
• Oil hoses- I had planned to have these shipped to me for my 5/15 deadline. I should have ordered them earlier apparently. Although this shop is located in Los Angeles County, they were able to stay open no problem since they are considered essential. Unfortunately they have been 100% focused on emergency COVID projects since they make MANY hoses used for emergency vehicles and hospital maintenance. They have told me they will do what they can to help with warranty issues as needed but all of my orders have to wait until things slow down.

That is where I am JUST on turbo kits folks. That is everything I know. What I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT KNOW is when I can ship out kits. I honestly have no idea but I am absolutely killing myself trying to figure out ways to make it happen WHILE still getting other products out the door. I wish this pandemic didn't happen, ok I know we ALL wish it didn't happen. But I'm trying to do my best.

Since the pandemic started I had three folks cancel their turbo order. All three had lost their jobs. I can't blame them at all and I totally get their need to get as much money together as they possibly can. But in doing so it brings me closer to the brink of disaster myself. Three refunds was enough to burn through my reserves so I need to be very careful with my next steps. Some items I will be waiting until the last possible second to order so that I am sitting on tens of thousands of dollars of inventory to just sit until this pandemic slows down and things get back to normal. But they will.

Please, those that are REALLY pissed off at me for not delivering your kit, I'm sorry. I didn't plan for this. No one did apparently :(

No worries at all! Not pissed over here.

However my friends and some family think I am one of "those guys" who says he has something or getting something, but it isn't true. All in order to score some cool points.

:flipoff2:Them I say. One day my turbo will arrive!!

Appreciate the update! I've managed stay patient for a year since my preorder so what's another few months

I totally understand the folks that are in a financial pinch right now and need the funds, that sucks for both parties, but I don't see how anyone can be pissed at you, you've been extremely transparent about this whole process.

Did you by chance have a high school girlfriend that was never around because she was always busy at photo shoots and filming movies?

Never. She was in college so she couldn't come to the dances.

Folks that are impatient: chill out, it will be totally worth the wait. As an early investor, one of the first orders, I waited for what, a couple years? If your 80 is your keeper vehicle, it will be well worth the wait. And if the 80 is your keeper vehicle, it is in your best interest to help keep a guy like Joey in business.

Sorry to hear about the folks who lost their jobs :( I'm feeling really lucky in more ways than one.

yeah I totally feel for everyone right now. My sisters are all in nursing so they are busy as can be. But man it’s utterly depressing to hear how many of my customers and friends have lost their jobs 😞

We appreciate the transparency. I can also wait. It sucks that people are losing their jobs and struggling to find ways to make ends meet. I am very grateful to be able to work and even more grateful for Joey being upfront about all of this. I guess I have no other choice, I will just have to order some more things from him to help out. I really don't want to... Stop twisting my arm dammit. ;)

In hindsight, had I NOT moved my family and shop to Oregon I probably could have gotten out a handful of kits out but then I’d be totally screwed being trapped in LA 😞

Thanks for the update Joey, helps to put things into perspective.

Hindsight being 20/20, if you stayed in LA, at least the traffic is MUCH improved now

I'll just say I was worried about the turbo at one point being something I may regret as it is a huge investment.
Now that it's installed, don't think i can own a non turbo'd gas 80.
Transforms the truck in such a good simple way. All my car buddies kept oogling it and saying how it looked like an OEM unit.
Those of you that can hold out and not cancel your orders won't regret it.

We'd all be in for a rough road ahead if we lost a top tier vendor like @NLXTACY, especially as he continues to grow and expand his parts offering in both OEM and custom solutions.

Good things come to those that wait! Give Joey a break, he's turning out the highest quality product that few other 1-man operations can produce. Don't break Wit's End or I will come to your house and harass you forever!

Seriously, what options are out there that are better than this setup? As a desert dweller, turbo is the only option that I have without dealing with cooling issues that accommodate a SC and this is the BEST and most complete kit I've seen. Understand that the world is different now but will be much better with a turbo coming so very soon. :p

I'm only a pissed customer because I don't have any turbo budget yet. :cautious: Keep up the great work Joey and don't get bogged down in the mire. You are a gem in the junkyard.

I wish I had the money to put down for a turbo to help keep things running during this crazy time; I'll be placing an order on witsend for some other smaller stuff for my rebuild like a brass bushing, press tool, and other bits. Maybe every little bit helps? I too don't want to lose a top tier vendor for this community. Thanks for all your efforts!

My install is done and I'll be flogging her today now that I have warm and fuzzies. Yesterday I took her to the exhaust shop with the hood removed. I have to tell you this was a smart thing to do because I got to see where the smoke was coming from. The blankets were bedding in so no worries there. It was also nice to pull over and tighten up clamps and to check things out as I headed to the exhaust shop.

I removed the wheels and kept raising/lowering the 80 in order to prevent bending over constantly. Furthermore, I didn't want to step up/down a stool all day long. My lower back can't stand bending and stooping all day long. :bang:

Cruising down main with an open exhaust and no hood was defintely something I've never done. The 3.25" T bolt clamps came from an eBay seller. He had 10 clamps for $10 + shipping. These are Breeze brand, made in USA. The rest of the clamps were 3" & 3.5" that came from NAPA.
