Well if your turbo only works with a thousand dollar plus radiator then people might think twice about the turbo. I would suggest keeping your new turbo mule as stock as possible to get a good baseline for those of us who don’t like nor have the time to put in every fancy gizmo you would. Got nuts on your own truck, knock yourself out! Well, you already did. Keep this one stock and show that the turbo can be reliable without all the fancy stuff like how most people would run it.

Plus your over heating didn’t have anything to do with radiator cooling capacity. You should put a role of aluminum exhaust tape in the glove box and sleep comfortably.

Yeah I don't care about either. I want what I want in my truck. Folks can misinterpret my radiator purchase how they feel necessary

The ICON had a stock rad. That didn't cause the wreck nor cause it to overheat. Test mule #1 is still running a 12 year old OEM. My radiator choice won't/shouldn't prevent nor promote a turbo acquisition.

Yes it’s your truck and you can do what you please but as a customer I like to see high temp testing. Sadly the Icon truck was wrecked before 120 degree weather and I also get that for days on end.

I may be silly but for me it’s thorough testing and piece of mind. Plus where I live it can be 120+ Degrees for days and I have to climb a couple of nasty hills just to get home. Plus don’t you run an inter cooler? where as most of us won’t to start.


I’m asking the similar heat testing as car and car parts manufactures who go to places like furnace creek in Death Valley in summer to test their stuff. Since Joey lives in the valley which can get close to what death valley gets some times, it’s convenient. I’m not expecting it to overheat but from engineering stand point I see it as a great data point.

I lived in Texas where it was often 115 and they called it "hill country" I do have an intercooler but ran without it when I was trying to get a new intercooler because the Frozen Boost one is crap.

Nope, I don't have any louvers on the grey truck. I do have a turbo blanket but Joey's kit will have one. I did wrap my downpipe with heat wrap though. The only other heat management I did was cover the A/C line with more heat shielding (I think this will also be in the kit?)

My turbo truck will also not have louvers. I’m not convinced they do much.

I intend to install the turbo on my rig with an OEM radiator that probably 7 years old & 45,000-ish miles. I’m not overly concerned.

The original prototype rig was “worse” or older condition parts than mine & never an issue.

I may add louvers to the hood. Heat rises, not sure if they do MUCH, but it HAS to dissipate heat, by design.

It’s a fact, like religion.


Joey, did you mention your waiting on getting half of your turbo housing back? Where did it go or what are you having done to it? Just curious.

@jjdeneen918 oh nothing exciting. BW had four turbine housings in stock so I just took them. Waiting on the compressor housings to go with them so I can assemble and have a full working turbo.

Thanks, so with that and the turbo blanket all the pipes after the turbo would be exposed right? I'll plan on wrap all the pipes after turbo.

Just heard from Tial, the bulk order of wastegates that was supposed to be here this week will actually ship out on the 19th. Not the end of the world since I’m still waiting on pipes and turbos.

Would be pretty tough to ceramic coat YOUR manifold and heat shield since they are attached to YOUR truck. But all the information has been provided for companies that do that work if YOU want to have it done. Lol
