Bolt-on Turbo kit:
Turbo:
Borg Warner Airwerks 62mm
Forged CNC compressor wheel and Inconel Exhaust wheel
Journal Bearings
4" inlet, 2.5" outlet with 3" marmon flange downpipe
Max flow 78lbs/min
Wastegate: Tial Sport MV-R 44mm
Turbo header: Stainless steel J-pipe, single scroll T4 flange
Intake: Stock airbox
Dowpipe: 3" marmon flange, with bungs for AFR
Hoses: Crimp fit AN lines
Computer: Stock OEM
Injectors: Stock OEM 315cc/min
Fuel Pump: Stock OEM
Fuel Pressure Regulator: Stock OEM
Intercooler: Still working on this - going to try for A/W direct fit between turbo and TB.
Transmission: Stock or Shift kit up to end user. I recommend Transgo shift kit.

As this thing keeps getting closer, I was curious about the stock injectors and fuel pump. Should we upgrade these for insurance? My experience with injectors and fuel pumps on my SC Tacoma suggests bigger is better. If we do upgrade, can we run a little more boost on the stock computer?

Based upon market demand for this project, it might be worthwhile for @scottryana to explore getting a CARB E.O. That makes it 100% EPA compliant is all 50 states. Most efficient path is through SEMA Garage. Given TRD and Magnusson already did the legwork with the supercharger, getting the turbo should be incrimental. Using the stock ECU is a huge plus. Selling it as a complete kit is another plus. I bet it would be quite achievable, and financially worthwhile given the added market potential. PM me if you have questions. I’ll connect you to the SEMA Garage team. I also know where you can get a local stock 80 for testing, free of charge... ;)

Recently purchased another 80 to build after not owning one for years, stumbled across this thread, and just had to say I can't wait to see the end result, and hope to be one of the first to get my hands on one of these kits!

Should we upgrade the injectors and fuel pump?

1995 -1997 has the A343F trans, right? I’ve never had trans issues so I’ve never messed with it. Was over on the Transgo site. HD the preferred shift kit here? In the beginning I didn’t know if this would all come together, but it’s looking close now. Thinking about it all the time.

Pretty sure the bolt on kit can be unbolted for smog every two years, at least that’s my impression. If you look at the parts list there isn’t anything permanent or hard to remove.

I figured out a TX work around. There’s a form you fill out to tell them it’s out of state. Worked this year.

CA isn’t as lenient! However before anyone jumps on the band wagon of CA bashing we have have more cars than many many states combined ina small area so I am all for strick smog control because I like to breath relatively clean air.

I’d like to hear Scottryana’s input on the CARB E.O.
That would make this kit MUCH more marketable.

I really do not know anything about the process. I did pass it along, and we did take a look at the SEMA website. The SEMA garage that was referenced charges a membership fee based on company size so it probably wouldn't be that much to become a member, but the actual process to procure the CARB OE I am unsure of. I don't know if you are basically paying them to do the paperwork or what happens after the membership. I can say that the SEMA garage does have some cool toys and I would like to go check it out sometime. lol.

Oh well here you go I reached out to get a little more verification from the shop here is what he sent me.

"I had a long conversation with SEMA garage. They have the OE info from the TRD SC that can be repurposed for the turbo. So long as everything remains exactly as you’ve detailed (OEM computer, stock fuel pump/injectors, stock exhaust, O2 placement, etc) then I stand a better than good chance. I have the test vehicle but just need everything else ready to go. They will help with the paperwork and everything else. It will likely take 6-12months and cost somewhere around $12-18k."

So you guys better buy a lot of turbos!! Haha

I’m in!
