Square miles wise, most of California does not require smog. Too bad for you city boys but this Cali man cant for this turbo setup.

I like the way Denver does it. They just set limits and you're good to go if you pass. No visual. Plus they set up highway stations that check you on the fly. If you pass that twice, then you don't even need to go in for a test.

But, since everyone is fleeing California and moving here, I'm sure we'll be doing that crap soon.

How do you think this set up will behave in regards to managing/maintaining normal engine temperatures?

Mine averages about 10 degrees warmer.

On a properly maintained cruiser the turbo should not make it any hotter. It will be 95+ degrees here the next couple days, I will snap a pic of my scanguage. Days below 85 it sits 182-186, days over 85, I will see 190, And really hot days like 95+ I might see 192-196.

Where do you think your water temps would with outside at 115°?

I think the only times I ever saw 115 was in Texas and that's been a few years now, I don't really remember any problems. I think maybe it would creep up to 202, sitting stopped in traffic and would come back down to 196 but don't quote me. I don't think I have ever seen the truck stay over 196 when moving.

The turbo shouldn't really be a heat problem. You use the stock fan, in the stock location in the shroud. Unlike the TRD SC. The IAT if intercooled should not be overly hot. The turbo sits back away from the front of the engine so it doesn't block air flow like a SC'r.

I can understand being concerned about making more power and the heat that comes with it, and I will be the first to tell you I have not hooked the truck up to a really heavy trailer and forced it under load for a long period of time but I have put the truck under load up long hills and also just driving at 80+mph for hours. For information my truck is 6,600lbs without driver or tools, has stock gears and 315's and even has some LED lights blocking the radiator.

In my experience which includes two semi cross country trips, 2 trips from Texas to Moab in the summer and basically daily driving, engine coolant temp has never been an issue for me, AFTER I got caught up on maintenance. You can look at my build thread and I had a heat issue, before my turbo that was solved with the usual big 4, coolant flush, radiator, fan clutch and water pump.

Yesterday I was driving on I40 over the Colorado and the outside temp on the dash read 120*
I was wondering what the IAT was at 18psi on the ECO Boost with a kind of small A to A IC.
The fuel mileage seemed worse than it should have been, wondering if they were fuel cooling? need to put IAT on my tuner/gauge.

Sorry Dylan I missed this post. I am not entirely sure exactly how the GENII Raptor with the high out put EcoBoost is setup. I am sure you could pull the IAT's maybe with an OBDII reader. I really don't like to see temps over 170-175 degrees extended. If you were seeing that I would look at an upgraded intercooler which I am sure are out there for that platform.

I doubt they were fuel cooling, it is possible but I am just not sure how the system is setup. I would guess they pull timing which decreases power so to get the same power you use more throttle....

It is pretty uncommon to see twins on a modern I6 engine anymore. There used to be issues getting big singles to spool up as quickly as the twins, and in some cases the twins were actually sequential but with modern turbo technology, proper twin scroll setups, etc, unless you are going to make more power than a single turbo can produce it is pretty unheard of. The turbos on that engine are the old GT42's they were prior to CNC wheels and good ball bearings, they are probably good for 950-1000hp each, you could replace both of them with a GTX55 which is good for 2500hp. And that is exactly what Niki Hepburn is doing with her 1FZFE Drag car.

Not to mention you double the amount of plumbing, the amount of possible things that could go wrong etc.

These are INDIVIDUALS working very hard to make this happen.

This isn't Garrett, or Amazon, or Honeywell, etc.

You all really need to relax and let this come to fruition. This might take months more... maybe a year or more.

If you are so inclined, give them some money to assist with their R & D... I will vouchesafe for the people involved.

Otherwise, shut up and wait.

Wow! I didn't expect to get a reaction like that to my question. I'm pretty sure Ryan didn't take offense, but I could be wrong. I would be glad to kick in some $$ for R&D, but I am petty sure he wouldn't take it. I was more trying to keep this thread active- not trying to push anyone. You know how the threads go on here- once they get a few pages in they don't exist. I imagine that a lot of mud members are like me and don't check the forum every day so it makes sense to keep a thread like this active to keep interest up and to get it in front of as many people as possible. I didn't see this thread until it was 2 weeks old.

I am more than happy to wait how ever long it takes- assuming it is going to happen. If it doesn't happen, then it doesn't happen. I applaud the efforts of everyone involved. It is a tremendous undertaking. Thank you for the effort Ryan, and whoever else is involved.

I don't take offense to much of anything and I know Beno was just trying to say, no need to prod since it is a long process. But it is ok if the thread gets bumped, you might just be hearing a lot of the same from me, "That it is being worked on"

Just to give the people some idea of what all happens behind the scenes it isn't just throwing the parts together.

- I assembled a long list of parts
- I combed the internet for the best deals on the parts
- I sent that list to the "shop" undertaking this monumental task
- The "shop" had to weigh out the risk/benefit by reading this thread calculating their cost and what they could sell for
- The "shop" committed to the project or at least a trial build
- The "shop" had to find a 1FZ-FE laying around, purchase it and have it delivered
- They had to get me the required measurements so I could draw up the intercooler drawing and send it off to be prototyped (supercharger)
- They had to order the "turbo kits" that were already on the market to see what they were up against
- They had to get all of the EXTRA crap like air compressors, and dual batteries, etc that we like to bolt to our trucks to make sure they would all work
- They had to start calling and setting up dealer agreements with all of the vendors on the list THAT I PICKED (This is where most places would cut corners, they would just find one place that had parts and use all of them from one place. But I am pretty staunch about my parts. Haha)
- And like anything we all know that waiting for parts is a huge part of this game

This is about where we are

The list of things to do is still quite long but some of the things it includes are:
- Getting 1/2" steel flanges cut <--- in the works
- Getting custom hoses made <--- in the works
- Having the j-pipe fabricated and making the jig
- Bolting the j-pipe and turbo in a truck with all the EXTRAs and then building the intake pipe, down pipe, and charge pipe and making the jigs for those pipes
- Get me the measurements for the intercooler so I can draw it up and get it sent out to be prototyped (turbo)
- Decide if they want to get things coated, etc
- And probably 20 other little things that will come up along the way. lol.

It isn't fast but the goal from everyone involved is to have it done right.

Ryan- I don't know where the guys are that are working on this, but if they need a test fit vehicle and they are close enough I would be happy to bring one of mine to them and leave it for a while. I have a dual battery set up, but I do not have a York air comp..

Completely different setup than yours, but my '10 Jaguar XKR usually sees 40- 50° over ambient on the IAT2 when driving around town and if enjoying the car as it was intended, it'll get 50- 60° over ambient and doesn't vary that much. From what I've been reading on the Ford and Chevy boards while researching the Killer Chiller, that's pretty common for OEM designed W2A IC systems... especially when the IC coolant is siamesed with the engine coolant like mine is.

I'd imagine your A2A setup will see similar IAT2's, but will recover quicker after a pull. Keep in mind though, that with any heat exchanger using ambient air temps to cool water or charge air, you'll never get it below ambient. So if you're seeing 120° outside temp, that's at least what your engine is seeing off boost. At 18 PSI, an off the cuff guess is that you're probably hitting 160- 180° IAT2's.

We do have visual here in Calirado. Have had to argue multiple times that a high flow cat is indeed a cat and not a resonator, even after passing the sniffer. Now I just go in with the spec sheet in hand, although you still need to have the factory # of cats - if it came from the factory with 2, you still need to appear to have 2. They're also technically supposed to do a visual on all of your EGR stuff but that's easier to sneak by.
