call me crazy but what does everyone think about me putting some 2003 BMW 318i seats into my 68?

i have been looking for a great (affordable and comfortable) pair of seats to throw into my Cruiser while on a budget and happened to come across a pair of 318i buckets the other day. they are at almost no cost to me and seem to be pretty comfortable. PRO and CONS anyone?

ill try to get some pics of them so you all can get the visual effect. only lame part i can see now is the fact that they are electric and would be hard to adjust without wiring them up. could be more PITA than im hoping for. i am having a cage with seat cradle built as we "speak" so mounting shouldn't be too big of an issue...riiight?

thanks all!!!:wrench:

i put a set of those in a 75 for a guy here and hooked them up heat and all .wasnt to hard to do good luck

The only thing you have to be careful with is the thickness of the actual seat bottom to the mounts, if it's to thick you have issues with fitting under the steering wheel. You can build a lower bracket on the drivers side, but you're limited on the passenger because of the gas tank. There are lots of seats out there that will work however, I've got '94 Celica buckets in mine ... lots of people use Volvo buckets.

Good luck!

I have a 2000 328i and the seats are very comfortable. The bottoms are very low so doubt there would be much legroom trouble.

Why not ? I've got a set of '05 Scion seats in my '71. They're a lot more comfordable than the old stock bench. Tucker makes a good point. The drivers seat is as tight as I can get it to the tool box and I clear the steering wheel. I'm also running the truck without a stock fuel tank only using an aux. tank. This makes my wife happy, she doesn't like the idea of sitting over the tank. I know if I get in there and do some more modifications I can get them lower and possibly get the stock fuel tank back in. That's another project another day. Good Luck on yours.

thank you all for the encouragement! the seats seem to be pretty low-profile and im hoping to not have any issues on ds or ps. we will see when my cage and seat harness is complete what will happen with the stock tank anyhow..it's been refurbished and awaiting an install and a full tank for 6 months!!

how did you work the wiring without the harness from the BMW? is there a way to just provide some power to them or do i have to worry about certain amps or power ratings to get them to work correctly??

I have 700 series Recaro's in mine.

did i ask?

I have installed 1995 BMW seats for my cruiser. I like them, they're a bit stiff but they do the job for me...

i had some Saab Leather seats in my rig for a bit, they only lasted a year or 2 before they where destroyed.
