Almost? Do you have to be 21 to vote in Arizona? How about wait 'til 2027 and buy it a shot.
@fj80T I played around with 10k and 15k oil, and I felt 15k was too abrupt - the 10k is still variable. I'm actually thinking about backing mine off around 5 degrees because I have been completely unable to push my temps over about 198 in the absolute worst conditions I could muster (high ambient temps, steep hills, low speeds and high elevation, all at once), and that leads me to believe I'm just wasting fuel the rest of the time, spinning a fan too fast. I can FEEL the drag on the engine when it's fully engaged and I don't mind if I'm in a situation where it's needed, but the numbers just don't seem to support that. I had a thread with a poll on here last year trying to get a feel for a consensus on what "dangerous" temps were. I think the most plausible data point I found was that the AC shuts off at 226, which strikes me as Toyota telling you it's time to cool things off. Using that logic, I feel like I've got plenty of room to play with adjustment.
The other main reason to use a more aggressive setting is cooling the AC, especially when parked, or at low speed. The electric AUX fan should make that a non-concern.
Sorry, I can't seem to locate my notes on what temp setting I used when I adjusted mine, but I THINK I went with something like 105. I used a sous-vide bath and let the fan sit for a while to get a nice stable temp, propping it up so the bottom half of the fan body was still immersed in hot water as I adjusted it. It made the adjustment really simple.
Edit: obviously, the turbo guys have a different set of circumstances, and I'm not making any assumptions on their needs.
