Great thanks for the response. I will keep you all updated with how the install goes.

Soooo years ago all my orginal knobs and controls were taken out PO put just a toggle switch for the blower , I just check my resistor (which has just been sitting there for years and it seems to be ok . Anyone know how to wire this up for low and high heat

The low fan speed setting has never worked since I bought my '76 FJ40 in March 2000. I was going through my box of FJ40 odds and ends last week and noticed the resistor I had bought years ago from the famous, at least in northern New Mexico, Black Hole surplus:

I did a MUD search and found this thread, with the 50 watt reference. I looked up the part number on the Internet and discovered the resistor I had bought is only 17 watts, not 50, so I decided to put this resistor in my shopping cart:

Before placing an order I decided to take a look under the hood. The blue w/white stripe wire had been cut off several inches from the end of the stock resistor. The flat terminal connector was missing and some of the ceramic coating at the end was gone, but luckily there was about 3/4" of bare wire exposed. So I cleaned the wire, crimped on a male spade connector, and slathered the end of the resistor/wire/connector with black liquid electrical tape. I cut the insulation off the end of the cut blue w/white stripe wire, crimped on a female open barrel spade connector, and shrink wrapped it. I plugged it in, turned on the ignition key, and pulled the fan knob out to the first position - now it's working again :).

Why do you think the aluminum will erode away? It appeared much smaller than I had expected. My dad and I soldered it on with a couple of fittings and it appears to be working but my switch is a little finiky when on high..
