G'day all

Long time reader , first time poster . Names , Dan . From Christchurch New Zealand

Great forum you have here

Thought it about time I chuck up something to share

My BJ70 rebuild

Here in New Zealand we're lucky enough to have quite a few 70 series Landcruisers . I've got the best part of 3 SWB 70's , 2 running and 1 for parts

It all started a few months ago , finding 2 BJ70 wrecks. I picked them up cheap and started the rebuild soon after . The first one a 1986 job had been rolled and the other a 1985 with alot of rust

Heres the progress so far

Thats a while off yet as I'm gonna be using it as a DD for a while but thats where it'l end up

Future specs
SOA conversion
1HZ or 1HDT engine (Currently has 3B)
Dual Cable lockers
PTO winch
Snorkel + bars
Proberly 35's

Cheers
Dan

Heres a few shots of my other Cruiser

Its a 91 SWB with the mighty 1HZ , plenty of power to turn the 33's

sheerly awesome.

How come they're all red? Is that a fleet colour? Red was very rare here in NA. Choices were silver, black ( most common) and taupe.

Cheers

John

I like the shot out of the water. Only red or white very basic BJ 70's sold from '87 to '88 here in Ireland.

Cheers All

Dunno mate , just random luck of the draw

Red's not too uncommon over here , about as common as every other colour you'd expect to see

Nothing much to report from the build

Been busy last few nights stripping the interior out of the 85' to put into the rebuild

Soon she'll be running :D

nice work!! I am doing almost the same thing for the moment...
Good luck! ;)

Hey Dan, nice work on the 70.

Can you tell me, I was in NZ recently and there seem to be a lot of SWB (70, 71) and MWB (73, 74) cruisers getting around, and some that look quite new. The newest ones you can get in Oz (that were built here, I think) are from the mid- to late-1980's.

I've heard the NZ car market is wide open to imports because there is no manufacturing base there, unlike in Oz. So are you guys getting newer cruisers from Japan, or South America?

And the next question is ... how easy / expensive is it to get a truck from NZ to here? My BJ74 still goes like the clappers but it's 25 years old ...

thanx, Peter

Thanks mate ,

Yeah theres a few around here . I til recently thought we had little stopping us importing Cruisers from overseas but I was recently told that you can't import diesels before a certain year , may of been 2004 due to emissions. If its already in the country its fine

Wouldn't have a clue tho in terms of a price to get one to Oz , Shouldn't be too much I woulda thought? you can send em round NZ for $6-700 if they're running

If you do go ahead buying one over here and its Christchurch area , if you need someone to check it out for ya , give us a bell

you have a very nice family ...

Great 70 mate!

I've got a red BJ70 myself.

You wouldn't have a spare AC pump and/or bracket by any chance?
Also chasing the pulley with extra slot for AC pump belt and idler piece to lift revs when AC is on.

Thanks,
Matt

Hey cheers fellas

Been spending the odd hour here and there with the smaller things you don't see much off , interior's about to go back in

Brought another Cruiser , a BJ71 with F/R cable diff locks for the rebuild

Hey thanks man , Where can I find some shots of your Cruiser?
Nah can't say I have any AC pumps , If I did I'd be using it to make an air compressor

Cheers Dan
