Did some plinking with my son and friends. Was impressed with the 45-70 @the 45 yard line. Finally shot my 44 magnum. I think I have a new favorite caliber.

when i get back, I'll have to replace the TREs on Big Red. It's been wandering all over the road.

This showed up. I hope to get it on Big Red tomorrow.

Got it installed with the help of Hunter from Land Cruiser Specialist. Can't say enough good things about him. I think it looks good and is sturdy. Big Red drives like it's not even on there.

This frees up the front basket and gives me the option to go camping without towing the trailer.

On that motor, are the knock sensors in the valley behind those two coolant pipes? Technically the heads have to come off to get the pipe out? I had to do a knock sensor harness due to rat damage as well. You can actually snake the harness out without having to pull everything if you have a boriscope, a coat hanger, and some long picks.

The other option is to cut the coolant pipes and remove them independently.

I'm not sure, I sent it off to Landcruiser Specialist and they got it done in like two hours. I'll ask him tomorrow and confirm.

Just closing the loop on this. I spoke with Hunter. He says it was straight forward. You take off the manifold and everything is really accessible.
What engine did you have? The 4.0?

This was on an FJCruiser, so that maybe older than your truck. I'm not very well versed on the Tacoma powertrains.

Those rats were so bad they ate a hole in the gas tank too.

Finally back home for a weekend, decided to drive Big Red and give it a bath. I missed it. I forgot the power that engine makes and how loud it is. It's a good loud, not too annoying.

I been meaning to ask about this for a while but since the compound turbos, the engine obviously runs hotter. At 75mph, temps start to creep up to 200*-205* depending on incline. It gets hotter if I'm towing.
For you 4bt folks, what's the hottest sustained temps you're comfortable running? I'm thinking of adding an external engine oil cooler with a fan to see how much that helps.

pictures are in reverse order, but whatever, it's clean now.

Someone check my logic. Gonna install this sandwich plate that's made for the Cummins.

I already confirmed it fits the oil filter. Thinking of installing the oil cooler in front of the radiator. I would have to move the pusher fan to the left, but there's room.

I have to see if I can fit an oil cooler with a fan, but that would be a nice to have, not a requirement. Am I missing something obvious? I just want to drop the temps by maybe 10 to 15 degree while maintaining 75-85mph.

Nothing wrong with 200-205F.

I'm wondering if that dinky dorkel is restricting airflow into the engine. 🤔
That snorkel is for looks now. Birds have nest in it.
