205 seems fine but I’m from LS land
205 isn't bad, but rises fast when towing and at elevation. I want that extra cushion. 205 is perfect for my SBC 350, but seems high with Big Red when I used to cruise at highway speeds at 190*

Have you played with the fuel screw? Turn it down a smidge to see how she does.
I have not. I like the way it responds and how quickly it boosts. I'm leery about messing up the settings, it's a beast now, just need to lower the temp a bit. I might try the engine oil cooler first to see if that gets me to where I want to be. Of course, I'm headed out of town, so it might be a few weeks before I can get back to this.

My compound 4bt runs like 190ish but gets upto 205-210 over CO mtn passes. Remind me, do you have turbo blankets on both of them and have the downpipe wrapped? That reduced quite a bit a radiant heat that soaks the entire engine bay once under higher loads. And what fan setup do you have on it?

Yup, both turbos have blankets and the downpipe is wrapped. I have two electric fans, one puller and one pusher that move a ton of air. I like the fueling settings right now cause I can get to 60psi if I need it. So hoping this engine oil cooler can just drop it ten degrees.
When I was in Colorado I was hitting 230 fast, but I was pulling a trailer and I'm regeared to 3.73s.

Mine runs 180-190 on flat ground in the summer but gets up around 210 on grades. Maybe 215-220 on steep grades with the 42s installed.

Hard to say. I'd be uneasy if it was much above 200* for an extended period.

4.88's with my 42's. It's definitely plenty of gear.

I also did a 6BT oil cooler on mine.
I thought about the 6BT oil cooler. But I didn't want to tax the radiator and coolant more. Do you feel like it improved your temps?

I had it done with a full rebuild of my engine last year so can't really comment.

Long story, but I only put like 40k on it since I bought it "rebuilt" in 2008 before installing, but had dip**** mechanics work on it who used way too much ether/starting fluid and I suspected I had internal damage so i had it torn apart. It has different pistons now.

What gears are you running to turn 42s?
3.73s, but it's not obviously ideal on the road. I don't drive stickies much on the road anyway.

Most of the time I have 37" ATs on it which is perfect.

Finally had some time to myself and decided to tackle the oil cooler. I should have gone with a much larger one, but this works for now. Will likely get an 8 pass before next summer.

It mounted right behind the intercooler and in front of the push fan. No new leaks, but I did notice a drop in oil pressure, roughly 10 psi. I ran out of daylight, so I didn't mess with the oil temp gauge, hopefully, I'll do that tomorrow.

I drove it hard between 68 and 75 mph and the engine did not hit 200*. So I'm going to take it as a win, but will definitely be upgrading to a larger cooler, maybe an 8 pass if I can find one that fits.

Had a few hours to myself so I decided to install the oil temp gauge. I normally use mechanical gauges for simplicity, but went with a glowshift one this time because it was a direct fit to the oil sandwich plate.

This was a pain in the ass to install, mostly because I didn't have 22 gauge wires and the ones that came with it did not reach the fuse box or the oil filter. Anyway. I got it installed. It works. I'm happy.

I did a test run. Seems like the oil temps are between 7 and 14 degrees cooler than the coolant temps when moving. They catch up when at a stand still. I drove between 72 and 77mph most of the way and hit 200* once when I really got on it. I think overall I'm happy with this upgrade, but already looking for a larger oil cooler or one with a fan.

Checked up on Sushi Roll's engine swap. It's coming along great. Drove Big Red at night when it was cool. Did 84mph on the highway with coolant temps at a constant 190*.

Went to get an O ring replaced on the fuel pump, ended up admiring this guy's personal collection of cars. I will be taking big red to big bend next week. The big turbo downpipe has a crack it in so it's leaking a bit, but not a show stopper. Won't be able to do 60 psi again until it gets fixed.

The guy bought two building across from one another so he can store his cars in it. There must have been easily 70 restored vehicles or in some cases brand new cars with only 7 miles on them.

Dogs decided to play fetch while I rotated the tires. It got old and annoying fast.

You can see where it leaks from the large turbo down pipe. Will have to reweld that flange and change out some gaskets. But that's a problem for months down the line.

Spent Thanksgiving with some good friends at big bend state park. I forgot how far the drive is, but it was a good reminder of how big red can drive. Motor oil temps barely ever went over 185. A few times coolant temps hit 210 but that was while doing over 85 mph going uphill. Anyway, some pics.
