NOW THAT IT IS SUMMER TIME!!!!:)

I know it's silly, but does anyone have a preference of sun-shade / auto-shade / sun-screen / windshield sunscreen whatever is the official name of the reflective sun shade to help protect your 80-Series from harmful UVA & UVB Rays?

Dude .. just buy one, it'll do the intended job. If you don't like it, return it.

Just make sure to get one that is reflective and insulated by either foam or the bubble wrap looking stuff. I don't think the pop-up fabric shades work as well, I had one of those for several years. I bought a walmart clearance shade (~$2), it is reflective on a lighweight foam backing. It folds up compactly enough to put under the back of my drivers seat. It is not very "stiff", so I have to make sure it is in position over the passenger side by reaching all the way over to the upper corner of the window (not easy, since I am... ahemm... vertically challenged). Works great to keep the temp down, but after two years it is falling apart. I will be looking for a new one, probably a little more substantial this time.

Foilon, Reflectix, and other brand names of foil/bubble/foil run aobut $2 a linear foot for 4 feet wide.
Cut it to fit.
I plan on doing this soon.

"Auto Shade Premium" fits really well! Follow the sizing on the box. I have a black LX and have been very happy and I am on my second one! The first one lasted about a year and a half of every day So. Cal use.

I have been using the Cover Craft custom cut sun shades for the past twenty years in all my cars. They fit, they work very well, they last several years, and they look nice. They really save your dash and interior as well as keeping things cooler. You can get them for about $50 delivered to your door. Don't bother with the "carrying case", you won't use it.

Covercraft Sun Shades, Covercraft Custom UV Shield, Heat Shield

There might be something new and better, but I just keep going back to this because I know it works well.

LOL...I had thought the same thing when I first read the post.

But as it turns out this thread has shown a couple of nice alternatives with the Eclipse retractable unit and the foldable Covercraft.

I may look into the Eclipse myself. The Covercraft looks a tad heavy.

Thanks GCR1.

Covercraft isn't heavy at all. It's sections of foam covered in that reflective material. Lots more insulative than the Eclipse based on what I have seen.

Just get the genuine Toyota one. my dealer gave us one for our tundra. it works better than my 20 dollar auto shade!

Nicley said my freind, nicley said. I really enjoy reading how helpfull the folks are on this forum no matter how simple the question.... I'm rethinking my shade now.

Keep in mind also that the sun isn't always going to be straight ahead. Get something that you can move around .. prop up on the seat to block a side window etc. Portability is key for my needs.

so does toyota actually make a sun shade for the 80? My new apartment parking lot faces the sun and it bakes my interior through the windshield and I dont think the leather can take much more.

I should get one to protect my intact dash, but one of those things I haven't gotten around to so I look for a tree to park under or find a space that points away from the sun. :steer:

i love the one i have. it opens up to a dual round shape approx 30" dia each, held together by nylon. folds up compact to about a 10" circle, kind of like a photographer's reflector. stores nicely between the center console and ebrake handle. its way more versatile because you can move it around...like part DS window part DS windshield coverage. its black on one side, and grey on the other. not sure of the brand though...

my front windshield is TINTED
