Just purchased 5 original chrome wheels to put back on my cruiser but before doing so I need to clean them up.

What's everyone favorite product or way to accomplish this?

BTW I am doing searches also kinda looking for anything
new.

Good question. I am wondering the same thing as I need to clean a couple of mine up with some rust on them. I have heard a few guys use super fine grit sandpaper and then polish but havent heard past that.

I have always used fine steel wool then a metal polish

I actually got some polishing wad at napa which worked ok.

I then crumpled up some foil and dipped in it coke and tried that. It worked pretty good! I may try the steel wool I think was 000, the foil was nice but I would like to try steel wool.

I use strongarmbrand spray for cleaning, detailing, rust removal and simichrome for polishing on my all original 1970 kawasaki Mach III.

From a standpoint of cleaning and removing small rust deposits, I've always used commercial strength wire wheel cleaner/ wheel acid.

Its can be applied with a spray bottle (diluted mine 4:1) and allowed to sit for approximately 30 seconds then sprayed off with pressure washer with a 25 degree fan setting (dont use turbo nozzles for this). It works wonders and can eliminate almost all the hard work with details like in between wire spoke wheels (Like on old E-type Jags).

As a precaution, realize its an acid and know that it will try to neutralize itself on any surface. I always tried to take the wheels off and when that wasn't possible, spray any affected surfaces with a degreaser when done- this will help to neutralize the affects. Then rinse a second time with high pressure water.

Detailed for years and it never let me down

Steel wool will take off little specs of rust and polish them nicely

I used some Dupont cutting compound and steel wool (000). Came out nice...
