whats the best 3/8th drive stubby ratchet you guys have ever used? comfort level/best features etc?

i'm in the market for one.

I just bought a Snap-On fine tooth/close angle ("Dual 80 Technology") stubby for my header install job and ITS THE BOMB!!! I have a few Snap-On open end/box end wrenches but this is my first Snap On ratchet. Unfortunately I'm going to have to get the same in full size as it BLOWS my Craftsman's away.

I bought the flex stubby...they offer the same in fixed head too.

FKF80, Ratchet, Sealed Head, Dual 80 Technology, Stubby Flex-Head, 3/8" drive, 4 3/4"

Worth every penny IMO.

I've got an older Snap-On fixed head stubby. I don't have anything to compare it to but and it's a very nice wrench. Just me but I don't like flex wrenches, they always seem to bend when I don't want them to.

It is nice having some of each to use. Also, depends on what type of flex head ratchet you get. Some have ball bearing detents that will hold the head position.

I have a ton of ratchets, one of my favorites is the Wright 3430. It is a 1/4" ratchet with a 3/8" anvil, it is very compact, especially the head, smooth, etc. Because of it being 1/4" ratchet, it's not the strongest, but very handy when a large socket meeds to be turned in a tight place. They are also easy to disassemble/service.

Is it stamped for country of origin?

I've stated my hatred for Snap On many times on this forum.

Their ratchets kick ass. They are the best. It's just up to you if you can take the price, the inability to track down a truck when they break (and they will) and the grief you get when you want it fixed.

truck rolls in to my work every wednesday at 11am. dealer is really helpful to all our techs. the price? well ok you got me there :D

i don't hate snaps, but i don't worship it either. i've got a few wrenches and sockets that i got a smoking deal on (same price as Australia's "craftsman" equivelent), and they are pretty nice. not nice enough for full retail tho. hence the question i posed, because i could buy a snap on one and know i'll like it, or i could shop around on the suggestions here, and hopefully score myself a better value tool.

All of mine say USA on them.

:meh:

Mine too, but they are old and all of them did, this is no longer true. Some say the new chicom units are just as good, but that is yet to be proven?

+1 on the Wright 3430.

looking into finding one in AUS now, or an online dealer that will deliver to AUS. are they turn dial or thumb switch to reverse the action?

I've got a Proto 5249. There is nothing fancy about it other than it's thin and has worked flawlessly from the day my grandfather gave it to me. Way better built than any Craftsman tools I've bought.

some of mine say made in canada .

as for a stubby ratchet i bought a normal length flex handle one from canadian tire and cut the handle off , i have to snipe there normal handled ones to break them so as a stubby i see it lasting a while .

most of my tools are snap on but stubby wrenches and stubby ratchets don't break . so ill keep my 100$
