Beginning to Hate My Engine

Excellent!

Yes, Mike and I went for a putt around the block.

Of course right after I posted she was alive we found a big vacuum leak. Took a Helicoil (and some other magic), but she is sealed up nice now. Some would say permanently. About my only concern is the idle screw is all the way down into the throttle body (which is why I suspected a vacuum leak the first time.) I'm hoping as the computer figures things out it will drop.

Loose ends:

Check the valve adjustment.
Install nurf bars.
Do something with the center console.

.

Did you jump the approriate OBD1 terminals when setting the idle? Pretty sure it is E1 and T, (those are the ones for the 4AGE and the 22RE has essentially the same EFI system and ECU). If you do not jump the terminals, the computer will interferre and you can not get the idle set properly. It is similar to setting the timing, you might check the timing while you are at it.

My procedure is even more primitive than that. Yes, I jumpered the terminals. Mike even learned something about my old junk. The screw is just barely off the bottom. With the big vacuum leak it was screwed down all the way and idling at 1000rpm.

I'm going to let the computer figure things out then mess with the timing and idle. Unlike my 2FE the idle is not computer controlled. I'm having to relearn how to drive this engine. Noticeably different.
