By removing two of the oem wire harness retainers I can create enough slack to make it work but there’s more tension in the wiring than ideal. Has anyone used a terminal connector that extends further from the terminal to relieve the wire stress?

Stretching the wires like that is a leading cause of fusible link failure. Have seen them extended with brass strap, a short hunk of wire, doubling the number of connections, or could return the battery and get the correct one? Also the box is fiberglass, will saw the wires, so needs to have the grommets or other protection around the holes.

Grommets on hand, just not installed during the test fit. Several others have installed a 31M battery. Perhaps they’ve been willing to accept the stretched wires. Surely there’s a terminal fitting that makes it work.

Thanks. It looks like it’s only sold with a 200 series tray kit?

He will sell them separately. You can call him up and he will sell only the terminal extensions. I saw them at Overland Expo last year on a 200 and thought the same until I called him:)

Another option is to mount a bus bar behind the battery and run the fusable link to that. I like to limit hte number of cables and wires connected directly to the battery.

Some notes for the next guy...

1. The Odyssey PC-2150-S 31R terminal location is better suited than the 31M pictured above. This model comes with threaded terminal studs. I’m using Odyssey brass adapters.
2. NAPA sells a terminal connector that is the same design as the oem positive connector but longer to better accommodate factory cable length. I ordered the Slee extension but using the NAPA variety in the meantime. I’m sure it would be fine long term and it’s only $4 if you’re on a budget.
3. 1” aluminum angle from Lowe’s. If you’re particular, 120 grit in a palm sander gives it a nice look and works great to round the corners and edges.
4. Factory J-hooks work fine. You’ll need to trim the outboard hook length to avoid it hitting the hood

Another note on the 31-M version - the secondary terminals are too close to the leading edge to safely use an angle-style retainer.

Cut the walls off of the battery tray/box and there is plenty of room for the cables not to be stretched

I do think long term I’ll swith to the center style bracket retainer as you’ve pictured. Odyssey sells one that I think I can mount in the factory box.

Mine is from ruff stuff and I bolted their mount to the factory tray, it has worked really well for me.
