So I’ve just picked up a 2013 bare bones 200 DXL from Oman with a VDJ and manual gearbox.

The door sticker says H150 box, so that’s straight forward, but given it has a terribly high 5th ratio, same as my 70 series VDJ, I want to know whether I can swap in a brand new H152 box easily? Are they straight swaps on the 200 series VDJ (permanent 4WD) like the 70’s?

Considering the 200 has already done in excess of 200k, it doesn’t make financial sense to crack the box and install the Terrain Tamer fifth gear kit when the brand new box is cheaper than the kit, plus a rebuild kit, plus labour.

Congrats! You will have all of the stateside folks ogling that beast in no time lol
Yup. I did the black mirrors. Ripped off my roofrack. No tint. I did the GCC spec base grille. I am doing to do the black handles next, and then hopefully some steelies which are harder to find than one can imagine. Might give up and get some chinese wheels.

All our life tried to make money not to have to buy base cars. Now we buy nice cars and make them base looking.

Swap out the H150 for a brand new H152 without any dramas. The H152 comes with bellhousing, throw out bearing and clutch fork all from Factory. Go for it, you won’t regret it!

Can you post photos of the interior?

Thanks. That was the plan but wanted to ensure it’s a straight swap.

One of the best upgrades for the 70 I did was the Terrain Tamer fifth. Doesn’t make sense to do the same on this one with high mileage.

I’ll do an EXEDY Safari clutch, same as in my 78.

Shipping address and contact details at port are in DMs. Plz to insert 30 units into provided ISBUs for MUD'merica bros. thx, MUDfrens.

Nice and welcome to the party! I also have VDJ 200 w/ manual gearbox. Mines a GCC spec, but came from Toyota Gibraltar. No KDSS or crawl, but also no cruise control, which sucked. They also didn’t put speakers in the 2nd row doors or the 3rd row. So it’s definitely base! Everything else was nice and simple. I added Terrain Tamer diff locks and did a 2” lift w/ BP-51’s. Great vehicle, though like you, I’d like the steering wheel to have a few more options. Let me know how your swap works and if there’s wiring looms already built in for plug a play stuff (cruise control, audio, etc). Have fun and enjoy!

Thanks - sounds like we have similar trucks. What age is yours?

Interestingly, these ones came without the intercooler in base spec and manual. I’ll get an OEM kit fitted when it gets registered.

I’m not going to mess around too much if there’s no wiring for steering wheel controls. I’ve learnt my lesson with my 78 and cowboy electricians here who think they can install new clock springs and create their own wiring for controls. If it’s not a simple plug and play job on this one I’ll have the wheel with controls for decoration only.

I’m still thinking about suspension. Most people here go for Kings, so I’ve got my ear to the ground for a set secondhand, that I can just get rebuilt and installed.

Stereo upgrade will come early as I spend a lot of time in my trucks. I’ll also do Recaro experts Up front and see how simple it will be to install a 60/40 rear seat to enable me to keep my son’s car seat but also do a rear install with sleeping platform.

I have a 2017 GXR. Mine comes with the factory intercooler and has cloth seats. I have the 60/40 split 2nd row as well as the 50/50 3rd row. I’ve second row A/C in the center console, no roof or rear A/C. I do have a cool factory mounted step on the right rear of the vehicle for accessing the OEM 3/4 aluminum roof rack. Steel 5 spoke wheels are my spec, and I like em. The stones chip the OEM wheel paint, but I get them redone from time to time in Namibia. They’re certainly tougher than the 18” aluminum ones.

When it comes to shocks, I went BP-51’s as the were OME’s top of the line suspension, and I didn’t want ruin the nice ride of the cruiser, but improve it. I’m kind of wishing I hadn’t. In the 5 1/2 yrs I’ve had it, I’ve replaced both front and rear shocks. One rear shock had the shock guard mounted poorly, and the shaft got pitted out cause the installers wouldn’t send me new clips nor warranty them after the fact. I live in Angola, so a week long drive, one way, paid for by me to South Africa wasn’t gonna work. Then, this year, I was a getting the upper spherical bushings replaced in Namibia, as they’re a PITA to swop. Guy pulled off those front shock and showed me where the coil spring broke near the top… OME wouldn’t warranty it even as strange as it is... So, 2 new front shocks it was, as I had 2 new rears… I’m now wishing I had just gone with some non bypass shocks from Bilstein or something. Can you get King’s rebuilt in Dubai or do they have to get sent abroad?
