Well I’ve been posting most of my projects and progress over on the “what have you done to your 100 series today” thread. But I decided I need to keep it all in one place so I can go back and reference dates and mileage.

Bought this 2005 LX470 with 196k miles in Albuquerque back in December in hopes of replacing our 2011 LX570 with it. My wife signed on and we were off to make a deal.

So I got a decent deal because the AHC went up and down but rode like trash. I talked with @suprarx7nut about possible issues but ultimately decided to replace with stock LC springs and torsion bars (free from my brother in law). I replaced the shocks with Bilstein 4600s and added 30mm @Ironman4x4Bubba spring spacers to give it a 1” lift.

Rides great now.

Decided I needed to baseline the driveline fluids, so at 198k miles I drained front and rear diffs and filled with 80w-90 diff fluid. Worst smelling stuff. Also had a local shop replace and repack the front inner and outer bearings at the same mileage.

while I was in Tulsa, I stopped by Fowler Toyota and bought a heater tee to replace the ticking time bomb I had sitting back there at the back of the engine bay.

After the suspension replacement I was getting a lil clunk from the rear end. I thought it was just the shoulder washers for the shock mount bushings bumping around. Turned out I needed to grease ALL of my zerks as they were all DRY. Greased and now the clunk upon stopping and clunk again after releasing the brake is gone.

Then I replaced the rear sway bar eyelet bushings:

As I was leaving for my trip to Tulsa, I noticed if I push the disc button 2 times it would bring up a MD emulator screen. And on the screen it said “iPod off”. I knew there was something special so I decided to investigate and clean as I went.

Found a USA Spec PA20-Toy iPod interface with a broken iPod cable. So I just hooked up the aux in with RCA-1/8” cable. Works great.

Cleaned around all the switches and replaced the AHC control switch with a genuine OEM Toyota dirt catcher pocket from eBay.

Today I finished prepping the OE 18” LX wheels for paint. I put the ugly bald tired Tundra 18” wheels on it while I painted the OEM ones with Duplicolor Graphite Gray and finished off with VHT clear coat.

Things like CV boots, power steering fluid flush, and brake fluid flush were already done (receipts with date and mileage in hand) before I bought it. They had also replaced the front and rear rotors and brake pads. So the last few things I need to do are:
1. Transfer case fluid drain and fill.
2. Transmission fluid replacement.
3. Coolant flush and replace with Toyota SLLC. Someone put the green stuff in there for some reason.
4. Replace front sway bar end links and associated bushings.
5. Wait forever for my TJM bumper to ship and install it. We have elk and deer around here by the thousands. And I frequently hunt hogs in west Texas (where I have hit a hog while going 75mph) and those suckers will jump out and get you.

**edit: cancelled the TJM order when I saw a fluke Ironman4x4 bumper show in stock.

Star date 198,300 miles on 1/24/2021:

I decided to investigate the new to me 2005 LX470 spark plugs and coil boots. Turned out all 8 weren’t close to torque spec.
All plugs looked new, coils/boots were all in good shape (no cracks), plug sockets all bone dry 👍, valve cover gaskets dry as well.

So I torqued to spec and put it all back together with peace of mind that it’s done and won’t leave me stranded. Thanks for the heads up, this forum is the 🎁 that keeps on giving.

Learned today that my wife hates overlanding, so that’s cool. Road tripping - fine. Driving on dirt roads - fine. Driving on rough rocky inclined roads to get to hiking spots/camping spots - lol hard pass. Oh well, won’t stop me from adding front armor against wild hog attacks (have hit one going 75mph at 04:00am before).

Sway-a-way (sway away) torsion bars received. Ordered on 1/27/2021, delivered 10 minutes ago. Still waiting on the Ironman4x4 bumper to ship. Ordered last Monday and still “awaiting fulfillment”.

Well packaged and marked for offset.

One minor hiccup installing the torsion bars. I must have got some dirt or crud in the threads when I installed the LC bars before, but the driver’s side adjustment bolt and swivel nut were FUBAR.

Nice looking rig, thanks for sharing your progress! Not sure if you‘ve share this elsewhere, but what prompted the change from a 200 to a 100? Would be great to hear your overall impression as someone who eventually wants to upgrade to a 200.

Thanks for the kind words. My wife and I loved the LX570/200 series but it was just unnecessarily luxurious for our current life stage. We have 3 kids under the age of 5. Can’t eat or drink in that vehicle and not cringe. Kids were constantly kicking seats or console accidentally. I’m just too high strung for that I guess. Initially I really loved the seats but the more I drove it, the lumbar hit me weird no matter what. I actually prefer the LX470 seats to the LX570 seats.

Welcome to Mud, and nice rig. Where you at in the Land o' Enchantment?
We live in Ruidoso. It’s a nice place to raise a family. Are you here in the Land of Entrapment too? 😅 I kid about that but it’s somewhat true. Love it here.
