Dug out my detailing gear to see if I could revive the intake hose which was looking a little tired. No pics before but 10:1 APC, bit of a brush, rinse, dish soap and rinse and then a coating of Meguiar's Hyper Dressing diluted 4:1 and left to soak overnight. Much better! Quick buff with a towel to knock off the shine and she'll be good

Really want to start getting this suspension fitted but I can't really do that until I can find a driver's door and a rear corner window so I can seal the truck up - would be glad if any Aussie members could point me in the right direction because I don't seem to be having any luck getting responses out of any wreckers.

Once she has lift she won't fit in the garage at home where she's living while we're restricted from travelling. Once this lifts a bit she will go back to the shed with hoist etc and decent headroom

Wintergeen oil can do wonders too for bringing back old hard rubber to life.

Extractors turned up today so got into pulling the manifold. Didnt break any hardware so that was nice, but will have to wait until tomorrow to get it off as I can't get the downpipe nuts off and the neighbours might not appreciate a grinder at this hour

So...this escalated quickly

Exhaust manifold off, some of the studs decided to act like bolts...

Since the access was so good and I have a genuine gasket set...why not do the side cover gaskets while I'm here?

Houston, we have a problem - factory studs are too long for the header flange - dammit!

Well, I can't put it back together tonight so might as well replace the valve cover gasket...

Side covers in rust converter, will dry overnight and then prime and satin black tomorrow

And since I was at it, let's put the brakes on this until it can be properly fixed

Side covers in satin black engine enamel - hope they're clean enough, they were degreased, scrubbed with hot water, brake clean, wire wheel and xylene so hopefully that will do. Quite a bit of pitting like the airbox lid but I don't think I will worry about that, although part of me wants to hit with spray putty and sand

Reassembly time, bolts cleaned and genuine gaskets with a coat of aviation sealant. This had better not leak!

Glow plugs arrived! Hopefully this is the key to decent cold starts as I'm getting 12V at the busbar with the key turned backwards

Old plugs out, nothing alarming here thankfully, no oil or signs of mechanical distress. They're 6 volt plugs tho so the full 12 volts probably cooked them pretty quickly as this isn't a superglow setup, it's a manual, turn the key backwards setup. And she starts perfectly now!

More tear-down today. Broke less than 50% of bolts so not too bad. Think I'm gonna need a radiator. PO's paint job didn't seem to involve the removal of any panels

The concept of doing a quick tidy-up and the thought of knowing some things weren't done 'properly' started to annoy me, especially with the fact we're supposed to be staying home so I couldn't drive it anyway. So we're back to a frame-off but keeping the 2H for the moment because it runs pretty nicely. So, she's coming apart for paint!
