This is a great thread. Perused all 24 pages and found the journey fascinating and enjoyable to read.

Thanks Ward and Georg for your passion and tenacity!

Hat tip to Romer for being the Baby Bear’s god papa - at least on this thread.

I have a random, detail question.

With the Baby Bear tank installed, the spare now apparently dropped .75” relative to stock, and the factory hitch retained - what is the largest tire you could fit under there? Would be great if 285/70R18 or 285/75R17 would shoehorn in.

Thanks in advance!

I can't tell you the biggest tire. I run a 275 70 R18. I think if you could fit a 285 in before the tank you could fit it in after. I'll leave it to Georg to comment on if he feels the slot got smaller due to any bracketing. The tire sits below the tank

A Nitto Ridge Grappler 285/70r18 fits. It'd be hard to go much larger.

@indycole, do you have a pic of how your 285 hangs?

I'm debating as my 305 already hangs ~1" lower. Looks like with the LRA tank, only the edge of the tire nearest the axle is impacted such that it hangs .75" lower there. So a total of 1.75" lower at the leading edge. and 1" lower at trailing edge. I think. I may have to resort to a smaller spare if I do this.

Thanks guys for the quick response.

Romer - that shot gave some tank envy

Indycole - am encouraged by your response. Is your 285/70R18 Nitto Ridge Grappler fully inflated when mounted in the spare location? Or did you have to slightly deflate to fit it?

FWIW, below are a few pics of my 285/65R18 stt pro sitting in the stock spare location (no baby bear... yet). According to Cooper’s site, these are 32.91” x 11.8”.

As you can see, I managed to rip off the “S” in the “STT Pro” raised letters dragging the rear down and back up a rut before the lift.

285/70R18 Ridge grapplers are 33.98” x 11.5”, according to Nitto’s site. So, would need another half inch or so.

I don’t have any pics, but I have a 285/75R17 KO2 underneath with the 12.5 gallon tank. It does hang down about 3/4 lower than stock, but fits in the space without issue.

Regarding the 24 gallon tank.... I can attest to several things.

One...install is NOT impeded by the Slee rear bumper.

Two... Despite all the crazy scrapes, bangs and bent metal I posted in the trail damage thread...nothing touched my up-armored 24 gallon LRA tank at all...as it is remarkably well tucked for its size. Super happy with it.

Also just realized I forgot to send photos to Georg at Valley Hybrids. They were kind enough to install it just in time for my three week Moab/Telluride/Ouray/Breckenridge marathon, and I could not be happier.

I also appreciated being able to buy a full second tank of cheap gas in Utah/Nevada before gas prices jumped more that a dollar in California. :)

If anyone out there is on the fence about the LRA mod? Man...I love it!

Also... It meant I was able to avoid gas boiling in Moab bubbling up and fouling sensors! No codes. And best of all...I didn’t have to push toward running out of gas on the trail to avoid it. -I just fill both tanks to about half...meaning full range, but no boil over.

A great solution to a very real issue.

I can confirm they are good to go through the 2016+ years. I have them on my '16 without issue. Shoot me a PM if you have a tank headed to SC, I may try to jump on there as well for a tank and split some shipping.

ETA: Click 16 LC in my signature to see those wheels on a 200.

Thanks for the endorsement and fitment confirmation.

Second, third and fourth tanks ride free!!

Ward, will these for sure fit the bolt pattern of my 2013?

I’m not Ward, but... Yes. They will. All 200’s have the same 5x150 pattern as do 100 Series and current version Tundras.
