Auxiliary Fuel Tanks for 200s

I’ve read about the automatic transmission mods that are popular in Australia. While they are interesting to me, I have a few concerns. The main experience with these mods seems to be with the V8 diesel. That engine has very different hp/torque curves from our 5.7l gas engine. Without seeing more experience with our engine, I am concerned about the impact on durability and what the actual advantages might be.

So I’m interested, but would like to see someone else with the 5.7 be the guinea pig.

ANYBODY INTERESTED?
TRANSMISSION UPGRADE DISCOUNT PACKAGE

Sitting on the plane, thinking about how to get he 200s launched, ordered, shipped, etc. I realized that many 6 speed 200s in Australia get upgraded with heavy duty valve bodies and torque converter lock-up kits. Cruiser Brothers is US distributer for Wholesale Automatic Transmission of Bayswater (suburban Melbourne) and Georg and I spent two days with Rocket Rod - co-founder of WAT - last week when in Melbourne area.

We just got our first sotck shipment but WAT products have been on MUD for over ten years and are well proven wiht lots of good reviews. Often referred to as "the best upgrade I've made" and great bang for the buck.

So we are thinking that if we are doing advance orders for the tanks for guys that actually use their 200s, maybe some of you all would like to add heavy duty valve body kits and torque converter lock up kits.

Attached info sheets are for the A750F five speeds, but same features/benefits/prices.

Any thoughts? No details, no offer, just asking for guidance/interest.

Thanks!

Your pdf link to the lock-up kit is for the A750F 5-speed transmission. Anything for the AB60F transmission in the LC200?

TIA

WAT sells these around the world into diesel and petrol markets. Good results all around.

I think my post above noted the info was/is for 5 speed. Working on content for other units, but the only thing different will be part number, trans model and fitment. Features, benefits and price will remain the same. Just haven't gotten around to doing the AB60F kit. If you want to see an AB60F, check this out....

The valve bodies for AB60F are the same in both 1VD-FTV and 3UR-FE. Aussies are pumping the diesel V8 well past stock 5.7 performance, so you should have a good experience, but we understand your reluctance. Advantages are increased clamping pressure, TC pressure, etc. resulting in crisper shifts, lower temperatures and TC lock up that is complete without slippage.

Fuel economy and longevity are both reported in use.

We have a valve body and TC lock up kit going in a 2017 Tundra in next two weeks. He is a hauler/tower as well as offroader.

Keep ya posted.

IT IS OFFICIAL - WE ARE DONE

We had one small issue that got resolved in meetings with LRA technical staff in Lilydale last week. Here is Georg in huddles with Anthony and Roger Beimers - co-owners of LRA. Also engaged was Caleb from LRA engineering, but he left on holiday before I could get a snapshot.

The tank and fitment kit are done :)

Turns out we had a mis-connected vent line that created a vacuum leak. Georg jumped into action today and the truck is now fully de-bugged. No codes, check engine light or strange noises. Here is the home of the prototype tank. Everything works the way it should.

Ward, as discussed before the fuel input has the restrictor in place?

Scenes from our visit in Lilydale

Hi Lux tanks getting some final finish

These and Tacoma tanks are some of the most challenging models that LRA offers.

Can you please start a new thread on the transmission upgrades? I too have hesitations about adding stuff intended primarily for the diesel market. At about US$1000 the valve body is pricey!..... is it a DIY or does a shop have to do it?

It would be very helpful if you could edit your first post on Page 1 of this thread with the very latest tank purchase info so it is easy to find. A newcomer would not have to read through everything.....

I’m still very interested in a 13 gal tank, but I am not at all eager to be a first adopter/ beta tester. Once reports come in of sccessfull DIY installs, I will probably order one.

Thanks,

Hi John, great suggestions, will do new tranny thread and edit the top post.

As a final post on trans upgrades in this thread, let me disabuse you of the perception about WAT products. Rodney and Stuart have provided upgrades and complete transmissions for the Australian market for over 25 years - not just Toyotas and not just diesels. If you peruse the WAT website https://automatictransmission.com.au/, you will see equal representation for both fuel types and most (if not all) the kits are used for the same transmission in both diesel and petrol applications. The transmissions are common to both and so are the kits.

Also, WAT is part owner of HGM, producer of the Compushift family of stand-alone transmission controllers and the affiliated organizations know more about petrol driven transmission controls than most anyone else in the aftermarket.

Pricing is $1,295 plus installation, which will run around four hours of shop time, plus some ATF as you will do a trans service at the same time. As Tony said, it is within skill range of many owners as a DIY, but you should be well rested and line up a second set of hands for part of the work.

As to value (say $2,000 vs $1,000 or doing nothing at all) the upgraded valve body kit is not just a "shift kit" in American hot rod parlance, but a redesigned and remade control device modified to bring the most out of an underutilized component of a very capable vehicle. Toyota builds our trucks to meet the needs of consumers that never utilize even a small portion of the platform's capabilities. Soft shifting, low pressures, etc. tend to produce happy soccer moms and fewer complaints during warranty period and more repairs / revenues after the warranty is up.

Properly designed upgrades such as the valve body and torque converter lock up kits will increase towing/hauling capabilities, reduce transmission wear and increase fuel efficiency.

Thanks for your interest in our offerings. I look forward to your favorable review of a DIY install of a 13 gallon tank...... or you could order one and be our first DIY. :)

Thanks for your post!

So how much are these things weighing? While I love the idea, and will probably get one some day... I wish they were resin like the stock fuel tank. Could probably drop a couple hundred pounds from behind the rear axle.

I hope it's not really 200 pound!
On the other end...I'm going to add up the weight of the Rotopax mounts & locks...cans themselves, and heavy Slee ladder mounts that I'll be able to lose & at least offset a fair bit of that weight. Also love the idea of lowering that additional weigh to the lowest possible point instead of high on my swing-outs. :)

If there's such a thing as fuel tank porn...

...this would be it. o_O:hillbilly:
So Georg has created a new form of Cruiser Porn?

Tankophelia? LOL

Gotta work on our marketing imagery....
