I have seen plenty of mini truck reduction boxes with broken outputs in the front case.

I still don't think it would be an issue. The 80 is heavy, but I think there is bigger factors as to why a t/c will let go...

Who do you have making your 4:1 gear set that will not fit in the split case?

The Marks 3:1 is VERY TIGHT, to the point that you need to remove A LOT of case material to make them fit.

Yes, I have installed them.

I thought this was a dream setup?!? :flipoff2:

Then I will run 3:1 gears in there... I will work out the details when someone makes me a damn adapter!

I didn't know you were such a "dreamer" lol. Let me clarify. Dream setup given real world parameters.

It would still be the same hardware in my case... I want dual cases, part time, with a lower gearset in the rear case. I want it to mate up to my stock transmission and I would like it to be offset to the passenger side so I can keep my axles.

I would only bitch about that scenario for a second because then I would have to have custom spider 9s front and rear with bobby long joints and mega9s front and rear. :grinpimp:

Psssh- Diamond axle housings with all Toyota parts. It's how I roll. Otherwise I would sell my engine/trans/tcase combo on here and run Chevy stuff with full width axles! That would probably be cheaper in the long run!

what is the t-case saver & who sells it?

The t-case saver is applicable to 1963-07/80 40/55 series Land Cruiser.

It is not for any other transfer case.

You do not need one for your 80 series.

bring this back from the dead

My dream setup factory I6 wit factory auto trani,
Atlas 4 speed
Front Dana 60 outers true hi9 center if it can handle the weight
Rear 14 bolt

now that school loans are close to being paid off time for research on who im gona contract to make this happen

An atlas 4 speed in an 80 would be sick!

if we are going the dream route, i think the simplest set up would be to add portals to stock 80 axles. you will get some more lift without affecting steering and axle link geometry and you would get stupid low gearing. you would have to run a bigger tire to offset the gearing :D. pressure would be off the axleshafts and ring and pinion becasue of gear box in hubs. if you put dana 60's under there you can probably do that now. i believe portal tek makes them now for dana 60s.

only downside would be having constant gear reductionand not selectabe like a transfer case, but the way to counteract that is with bigger tires.
...and you wouldn't have to play butcher with your floor and gastank!

With each passing day and having talked to the Aussie's at MARKS and Steven at advanced adaptors
anything short of a Mark's CRawl box is a no go unless ur talking axle/engine swap. It is only sheet metal and I don't care about that, BUT it's $3200 just to get the crawlbox to my door.

^ Yup I did it. No big deal.

So what engine, trani, xfer/crawl box, and axles would you swap in?

dana 60's with 5.86s, 3.15 marks tcase gears, plus the auto

i believe that gives you 54:1

having wheeled my pig plenty now I could be happy with her gears as they are but a little lower would be nice.

but any lower without a 3 speed tcase (such as a marks crawl box) would not be fun. as my set up sits now i often find myself wheeling in 1st high range.

No market and very expensive. Marks 4wd is the only one doing it but very few bite the bullet and do it. And with the economy in the crapper...you get the idea.

hmm, dead thread :( why nobody makes better gearing for FJ 80? :(

Because it is so badass already!!

If they can make a 3:1 why cant they make a 4:1. I see more and more 80s on the trail now then ever. The only aftermarket upgrade lacking for the 80 is the option for lower transfer case gearing.

You clearly have not ever seen the insides of a stock USA 80 series transfer case....

The 3:1 gear sets BARELY FIT!

:meh:

Removing internal metal seems to be the standard practice when installing lower gearsets in stock housings... just have to remove a little more ;)
