These are not army tires, but they are on the skinny and moderately tall side. LT 235 85 R16 Mud Terrain - with stock split rims on my '78 BJ40. Mike

I got them on Ebay from Megatires $89 + free shipping. I like the tire, and the seller was good too. :beer:

I've been reading this thread a while hoping to decide on a tire for my 40 series and liked the look of this one

One local tire shop can get them for about $140 a piece in 700-15. My trusted tire shop said that I should defintely not use a 700-15, that I would hate it and it would have unafe road handling.

Does anyone use these tires? My 40 is unlifted and has 3.7 gears so I'm hesitant to go 33-9.50. My daily driver also, so I don't want to be unsafe.

700-15 a bad choice? Stick with 235/75/15?

I run the 650-16 XZL's, no complaints, flexible, extremely rugged and good in the rain. Downside is they are only available in 16" and depending on your location, they are only available used, in either very tiny or very huge sizes. ;)

I don't know of anyone running the 742's, they were my alternate choice, which I didn't go with since I wanted a more open tread and the price . Post 25 has a picture of a 700-15 next to a 235/75-15, you decide. On a stock rim they would be fine and are only slightly taller than the stock tire, check the recommended rim width. In 15's there is nothing near stock width that's taller. Although everyone runs them, the 9.5 is actually too wide for the stock rim.
 
YOKOHAMA also makes the Y720 that is aggressive...i think the tire place you have is maybe steering you away from the 7.00r15 because of the 8ply rating? as the 235's are a 10 ply?

You are not going to notice any difference IMO

I know I can get them locally (I could not get the ones you purchased, shipped north of the border)...just wondering if they are any good? Will be checking in on the local price :rolleyes:
 
Just out of curiousity has anyone noticed that the Interco website lists the original Super Swamper TSL H78-15 still on their website? It's a special order deal. If anyone had the ability to look into a group purchase I would be interested in learning more if it is something we could do on mud for a halfway decent price.
 
I can't seem to find these for sale anywhere. Were you just lucky scoring these on Ebay, or do I need to just be patient and check there every so often?

I know I got lucky in that the price went up after I bought them. You may want to ask them through their Ebay store Megatires if that doesn't work, I can try to find their contact info.

Also, I don't put enough miles on to say much about road wear, but these tires are tough and bite like crazy on the trail. I like 'em.

I know I won't put hardly any miles on them. I just like the look AND the price. I'll try asking through the Ebay store.

Primex Trakmaster 500 7.00 x 15

I just picked up a set of 5, 7.00 x 15 Trakmasters today from a local dealer in Ontario.
I got them for $ 80.00 EA. CDN, He cut me a great deal, had lots of them in stock.
Said he sells a large amount, mainly to suzuki guys for mudding.
I'm putting mine on stock 15" gray steel rims. Can't wait to get them on my 84 BJ42.
They remind me of the tires off the old iltis jeep. They have the LCF (LOOK COOL FACTOR) to them.
I don't want to run a lift, so it is in my mind a great set up.
This truck is not a daily driver ,so I don't know what tread life will be.
I can see the tires taking lots of weights to balance as they are heavy and bias ply.
