What about the Bridgestone jeep service tire...can we still find some around?

Besides them once being heavy, any feedback on this tire?

The Y720 look really cool, and I think you can still get them from a VW off road shop in CA (they seem to use them a lot as front tires on VW off road bugs)..., but I will be going with the Y742S for my project.

I like both of these tires but not sure what I'm going to use. They look like a good snow tire but for me that's a "Catch 22". While I love drying around in the snow ADOT salts the highways in Northern Arizona. My poor 100 series is the only vehicle I drive up there in the winter. Even my FJ62 hasn't been out since last fall. Heading up this weekend and chance of snow on Saturday:frown:

link: Yokohama Y742S

here are the y742's

the 720's are not being sold by the vw shop anylonger AFAIK...no longer listed on their site
Those are nice and expensive. But thanks for the heads up. I do like them.

I was going to buy the same set i used to have ...toyo m-55's....but they went upto $330 each

remember those are radials....Bias will be alot cheaper...but...last 1/3rd the time

Very true. I like'em and am going to order them. I appreciate the information.

You are restoring a 1977 correct??? These would look fantastic on an early cruiser, but not sure how they will look on your '77...look at post #49 of this thread...that is a 700R15 tire; https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj25-owners-group/174609-dual-turn-signal-lense-colors-3.html

I was just reading your build thread, and I would probably lean more towards 235/75R15 tire or smaller 225/75R15 vs the 700 R15 for your build to keep that stock "look" you are trying to achieve (I think the 225/75R15 was a exact size match for what came on your truck...but I am not sure)...but this is just my personal opinion, and I do not want to influence you in any way.

@MywifesaidnoFJ : That link is great. Here's what really caught me and the direction I'm going to go. I think the 235-75-15's are the size I want I just need to find a radial tire that I like. Thanks for the info.

'So, while I agree that, by the book, a 235-75-15 is normally listed as too wide for a 5.5" rim (your stock rim should be 5.5" wide, not 5.0" wide, I believe) - I did a little research on this site and now I run 235-75-15s on the stock steel 15x5.5" wheels with no problems at all. Several others on the site run 235-75s also, and talking to them is what made me feel like I wasn't setting myself up for problems by mounting the 235-75s on the 5.5" wheels. (and also, if you're looking for a blackwall, about the only tire I've found in that size (locally, anyway...) is the Primewell PS850 - it's a fairly cheap 40k mi tire, but it turned out ok for me.'

I ended up going with BFG MUD Terrain 235-75-15

Like they say....a picture is worth a 1000 words...and that link had what I thought were good pictures, plus good info, on old classic rigs and tires

Firestone ANS Knob Tires

I saw these on Proffitt's 1960 FJ25 yesterday @ Cruiser Fest.

Here the tires I using on the white FJ25. I did some trading to get a set of FJ25 wheels. These tires are new and mounted on the rims when I got it. Size 245X75X16" They are a A/T made by Dean a company I have never heard of.

I think Dean were made by Cooper. Or they're Canadian.

Exactly!! I know...this would be a great replacement for the RK3.....but they do not offer it in a 700R15.....at least I did not see it in that size anywhere. I'll be calling them to see what it would take to get them to make this in a 700R15...to be continued

I still wish I could find a way to import a set of RK3...they are still being made new, but everyone whom I have contacted to get some imported, well no one could do it :frown:

EDIT: That D903 would be fantastic for you 25 guys, as it only comes in 7.50 R16. My above statement was for an early 40 owner like myself...
