ARB Intensity Lights Compared?

Wow. Those do seem pretty sweet, and a much better price.

Hmm, these do look interesting, even though the last thingI need right now are lights... (13K lumens!)

EDIT: $170 international shipping and $70 in GST tax make it a bit less interesting, but still curious.

Just go with the intensity. I love mine and struggled finding a good alternative. Others helped me out with their knock offs they liked but the supplier was no longer around or didn't offer the same lights anymore.

ARB also does mail in rebates every now and then which is when I got mine and I also got the smaller ones which the difference is minimal compared to the larger ones (in my opinion) and a couple hundred less.

I thought about that. I notice there there is only 1250 lumens difference between the smaller and larger ARBs (6950 vs. 8200 per light).

On the other hand...those STEDI units from australia compared VERY well in the video comparison with the ARBs on their web-site. Very nice, even light with an impressive throw in center.

Here's the video comparing the Stedi lights with several others.

**ARB Intensity comparison comes second in the video.

They really cast a nice spread that transitions to spot pretty nicely.

They are back-ordered a month right now though...

Have a look:

the vision X 8.7's are amazing for long range..... but need to be supplemented with additional lights as they are a true spot.... with my Baja S8 tucked back into the Prinsu it doens't hit my hood and works really nicely together..... the VisionX's are about two lanes wide a halfmile out....on the run back frim hillcountry this weekend I go a few long stretches to use them without killing anyone and the have a solid 2 mile range it seems...

but they're spendy.....

Ya, unless I'm a sniper trying to hit a target a mile out...those are CRAZY tight for a spot.

Might use them on a ship to blind pirates... :hillbilly:

I want spots so I can see critters, obstacles & etc. in time to navigate them.
-Not in time to write a journal entry about them before meeting. haha

They do look interesting, But Let me tell you about the way I see it:

$619.89 for the pair of lights (I quoted the safety nuts)
$173.28 for the Shipping
$72.11 GSTUS
$793.17 Total Since its an Australian Website, Im assuming THOSE ARE $AUD Which at the current Fx Rate of .75 $USD/$AUD Equals
594.87 $US Total, shipped to my home in FL, ready to mount and enjoy...

1450$ is the cost of the ARB Intensity's

594.87
-------- = 41%
1450

Thats a pretty sweet deal, again assuming the lights are as good as they say they are...

PS - Im a fan of the Intensity's

 forgot about $AUD. Plus I am going to be down there in August, so might bring back a pair if I can have them delivered to the hotel. But then again, I don't need lights... Hmm.

TonyP, I was looking at the larger ARB Intensity AR32 Model given that the sizes are similar to the Stedi Type X.

Htx, thanks for bringing it up.

I definitely agree. Bumper is the way to go for sure. I had a roof mounted bar on my 4Runner and didn't like it at all.
I also agree, bumper mounted, no glare back, and seeing over the light somehow does seem better on the eyes.

I've seen Rigid has a range of square stud-mounted lights.

LED technology was changing rapidly, not sure if it has slowed at all now, but a product that was 6 months old didn't always have the newest parts inside. The technology was running so fast, just like back when Intel chips were doubling their processing speed every few months...

Decision MADE:

Talked to the guys at STEDI in Australia...

Ordered the STEDI Type-X 8.5" Pair...comes complete with harness.
Cost with international shipping and adding security screws totaled $605.19 USD.

The throw and spread of these look fantastic if you watch the comparison videos.
They got 150 sets in a couple weeks ago and they SOLD OUT that SAME DAY...so these things are extremely popular in AU.
300 coming end of the month, shipping June 6th if you are interested.

@Markuson Did you receive your lights already? If so how do you like them???

Yes. Mounted them back in June, and they are fantastic. They also have incredibly strong mounting brackets and housings. -When I had the deer strike in Moab...they took a major blow and only had to be slightly re-aimed. No damage at all. They are incredibly bright...and came with a wiring setup that ties them to my brights when I toggle the included switch on.

Came with heavy mounts, wiring harness, switch setup, black covers and clear covers.

Great deal, too. -When you visit their website, remember that their prices are in Australian dollars...which means even after paying shipping to the US? Only about $600USD. HIGHLY recommended.
