ARB Bumper Differences

Can you tell me what bumper you are trying to install. I just put an 03+ bumper on my 2000. I finished about an hour ago. All I did was cut off the tabs that mount the OEM bumpers cross beam. I then bolted in the bottom 2 bolts. I did not cross drill throught the frame since I don;t have a winch.

you may want to pin the bar. it can shift if its not pinned. possibly hitting or kinking your fenders.

not to add. if you bump something, the bar WILL shift into the fenders. lol, that could be a nasty mess.

winch or no winch, it would be smart to pin it. In all locations thats supposed to be drilled

I do plan to pin it, after I add a winch. I need to widen gap between bumper and fender before I add a winch. My prior experience with ARB bumpers is that they'll flex atleast 1/2 on a heavy truck .

Also, Did you use one pin per side? Did you sleeve the pin? How did you get the drill to correct location?

Hi guys!
Thanks for all the info. The ARB I got is a sahara bar. But I would think the mounting system are the same. I will post some pic of the question area this weekend. As for pinning the bar. I would wait till I confirm I did the install correct first. But I would pin it for sure. The instruction from ARB has a different mounting system and their chassis looks different, too.

Not sure if they shipped another combo bar to the US, it was a 3413060 IIRC, it had the lower winch frame, like the 2002 model, it was for the 2003 model but they discontinued when they released the newer 3413090 so there may be none in the US, or only a few on vehicles..

Does anyone have any experience in putting a 98-02 Sahara onto a '03+ LX (2006 in particular)? Can it be done, are there any specific considerations (e.g., additional modifications required, greater gaps, etc.?)

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

My best guess is you would need to trim about 1cm off the bumper, around the grill area.

can the sahara bar be modified to carry a 12k winch?

The 03+ Sahara can handle the M12000 without any modifications. That would be the easiest way to do it, since the 03+ bar can be used on 98-02 LC/LX

Thanks. Is this the kind of thing I could do at home (I have no special tools--I have a couple of sockets, wrenches and a dremel!)? Any suggestions on where I could find pictures that could help me get a better sense for what is involved?

Thanks.

Post #55 of this thread kinda shows what you need to cut-off around the grill area. There is a gap in that pic because the newer grill sticks out some. That is the older grill shown. You'll need either a cut-off wheel (air tool or electric) or maybe even saw-zall with a bunch of fine metal blades. Tape off/protect all other areas as the wheel can easily throw sparks and burn off the powdercoating.

Bringing this back from the dead... Im ordering a combo bar within the week for my 99 LX. I dont like the big gap between the bumper and the body but i like body damage caused by a bumper moving when it hits or is used for winching even less. So...

Seeing as they will both fit and both require modifications which one is going to be better for my truck? I have read this whole thread twice and cant really come to a conclusion.

No, both with not fit. Well, the 98-02 will fit if you spend a day cutting away at it. Get the 03-07 bumper. You will only need to trim the tabs off the top bar, and the frame horn(like all 100s)

Yes, get the '03-'07 bumper. Both do fit... I don't think Loud sees your signature.

comparison shots

98-02- no fog light option, winch mounts to cradle on frame (feet down).

03-07- fog lights, wings sit higher, bumper mounted winch (feet forward), stronger wings.

Angles are the same, clearance in the center is the same, I think the 03+ looks better. The other 100 also has another inch of lift than me, I have the same clearance on the wing portion.

Very nice, thats exactly what i was hoping to see. The 03+ def looks a lot better, the other one looks like a snow plow... Thanks for the comparison pics

This should be in FAQ

I put mine on no issues. At first, looking at the grill area and the rear lip of the ARB bumper, I also thought that I'd have to cut, but once actually mounted on the frame, it cannot go back far enough to touch the grille, so no issues (at least on my truck).

For the record, I used to have an '03+ combo bar, and while it looked nice, it was a vibration machine, especially with the winch mounted. And that was just on the freeway! Mojave corrugations actually had me scared that my bumper was going to snap off and go under the truck, causing expensive damage. Once I started hearing stories about the newer combo bars stretching their accordion mounts in Oz, I decided to remove it and went to an older Sahara bar with the separate dedicated winch cradle. A much better design IMHO. The only weight on the accordion mounts is the face of the bumper itself, not the winch or the majority of the bracing for a winch. Also, the Sahara is lighter (no upper bar work), which I like.

I'm not exactly sure why ARB went with mounting the winch to the face of the bumper. I know bumpers for the 80 and other trucks do that, but those trucks also do not have accordion mounts to preserve airbag functionality, so they're still pretty solid.

Anyway, my $0.02,
