I'll be the first one to post photos from the run. It was a great time with good people, food and an awesome trail! Learned alot about wheeling in general and tested the limits of the 80's suspension (and my confidence) on the play hill :)

After playing, we dropped down into Martinez Canyon, where things got a little more than "stocker friendly"

After about an hour of Phil spotting everyone through a tough spot (thanks Phil!) we made it to the cabins and had lunch

Only problem was that the last 2 trucks in the pack (black Blazer and red Toyota truck) weren't CSC members and couldn't care less if they slowed down to mark a turn for the rest of us...

I hear you....but in all fairness CSC members did not wait for a large group of us at the cottonwood/mineral mine turnoff which led me to make an educated guess and lead the group out Cottonwood. If I had not been with this group I am not sure any of the others knew how to get out. I tried to reach the main group on radio and was not successful but could hear Murf being told to go the wrong way but couldn't over rule what was being directed.

It would be great if more of our club would make the leap to 2M radios because in a group like this it would make communication SO much easier!!!

For a group this large (29 trucks!) , being spread out and in canyons, it was a challenge at times for the front and rear of the group to hear each other.

In the end it all worked out.

HAm radios would be nice. Group buy? :hhmm:

2M Ham radios would be nice but a FCC license (need to pass a test) is required. Also, short of orbiting a drone repeater above the group, I don't see how 2M radios would penetrate into the canyons any better. I think the trail leaders did a good job in keeping the group together as much as possible. It's easy to get lost out there. When you're in a big group (or small for that matter) keep track of who's behind you and wait for them at the intersections.

The group has been instructed by LandcruiserPhil many many many times:
  • To make sure the vehicle behind you makes the turn
  • To wait for it until you see the vehicle behind you sees you or the turn
Perhaps the vehicle in front of you didn't get the instructions or didn't have a CB.

This^^^ is a proven tested system, eliminates the need for any type of radio also successfully where language barrier exists.

Yep...proven...as long as people use their mirrors:doh::rolleyes:

I agree with Phil.

Electronics and other tech has a tendency to break down in the field.

Good trail etiquette gets everyone where they need to be.

There may have been a few folks there yesterday who don't have a lot of experience with trail rides. On occasions like that, we may want to go over a few instructions at the air down spot. Especially for those that don't have a radio.

I wouldn't mind having a 2m radio, but there are other things I want more and I don't have to take a test to use. Yes, I'm lazy.

I thought it went extremely well for a group of that size. That being said,a quick drivers meeting isn't a bad idea to make sure everyone is on the same page.

We had a great time on our first run with the group. Met some fantastic people, ate to much great chow, and added some fresh rock rash to the LC. Thanks to all who hosted a wonderful run.

Wow. That trip was absolutely amazing (especially for a noob like me ;-) My whole family had a blast. Stunning views, crazy obstacles I never would have thought we could traverse (especially stock.. thanks Phil.. lol). We are definitely "hooked" and are looking forward to the next run.

A BIG thanks to all those that made this trip possible, and for opening my eyes to a new world.

Also, thanks to all those who gave me a jump start (battery died hard without warning)... And to those who lent me their air pump. I think my first mod will have to be an optima... or 2. lol.

Great scenery unique to this area, The kids wouldve never left the cave if given the choice, higher elevation view on the way out.
