I saw the thread on the FJ40 driver's seat getting a small lift but couldn't find one on the 60/62.

Has anyone considered lifting the driver's seat to add a bit more legroom?

If anyone has could you post your source for the parts here? Thanks.

hello, lots of members have done this. i originally swapped my seats for miata seats(they looked cool and had speakers in the headrests) but functionally they were no better other than i had more legroom. I now have some nice seats from jcwhitney that give a lot more legroom and have big side bolsters to keep me from sliding out. Many people swap in different seats like leather ones from a wrecked grand cherokee, there is a few vendors which sell aftermarket ones here or will re-upholster your stock seats. As far as gaining a higher seat with more legroom, this depends on how your brackets are setup or adjusted when you install them. watch you dont go too high or your head will hit the roof over big bumps and your legs will be rubbing on the wheel.

the brackets can be modified to allow the seat to slide back further. Might need some metal welded on. But when I looked at it never looked impossible. I just skipped it, as I don't find the leg room that bad. I'm 6 feet tall, but have short legs :)

How tall are you? I've got a pair of excellent condition front seats from an '88 Mazda MX6 along with brackets for bolting them directly into a 62. I'm 6'1" and when I sat up straight in 'em, my head would brush the headliner, so I ended up going back to the factory seats after a couple years. Legroom was fantastic though...

PM me if you're interested.

I didn't lift the seat, but I did tilt up the front of the cushion for more thigh support. Easy 10 minute job. You will need some nuts for spacers and some longer bolts (12mm head I think).

Here's two options...

#1 Buy the new seat foam from SOR. It is $$$$, but it has the same effect on ride quality as replacing worn out shocks with new. It also will raise your butt height 1-2"(guesstimate). I had to slide the seat forward a couple of notches after this.

#2 Buy some 1x1 square stock & longer bolts, drill holes in appropriate places, and you have an easy spacer to go between seat and the seat slider assembly.

Thanks for the responses and the ideas.

Spook, I am 6'4" so the Mazda seats may not work.

I will take a look at raising the front cushion.

Yeah at 6'4" they'd be pretty uncomfortable. Now if only we had high-roof Cruisers...
