Just installed these yesterday. Stock FJ62 leg room is 39 inches. This modification stretches that figure to 41. Actually, it seems more than that. I'm a lanky 6'5" and with the seat fully extended, my arms are fully extended! Older landcruisers suffer from inadequate legroom, but this one no longer does.

LOL!!!

I noticed an E-bay 62 with "TLC seat extension" advertised as one of its features so, after e-mailing the owner to get more info, I contacted TLC to see if they'd be willing to make some up for me. Although their policy to date was to only make them for local customers, they took pity on my geographically challenged location and agreed to take me on. Basically, they take your seat brackets and weld on an extension made from cutting up other 60 seat brackets. Expensive? Yes, but cheaper than new seats!

would you mind showing some pictures of the under side of the seat
to see how it was done?

I wouldn't mind. Not sure the folks at TLC would be too happy about it though. Like a dummy, I neglected to take photos before installation. So, I'd have to take the seats out in order to photograph. I'm not in the mood to do it right away since I just got them in, but PM me if necessary with a reminder if I don't get to it soon. I can tell you that, in addition to welding on an extension to the rear of the bracket, they weld on a mounting pin that fits into a hole in the bottom of the seat that's just in front of the hole your stock bracket currently mounts on. Fitting the nut on the pin was tricky (at least, for me it was) because the pin comes through from the top so you have to squeeze your fingers in from below, with very little room. Sharp metal edges on the underside of the seat extracted some blood. No tears or cursing though.:D

Im 6'6 and I guess I just have gotten used to driving vehicles with my knees on either side of the wheel. I didnt think the 60 was too bad. I did do extensions on the rails on my FJ40 to get about 2.5" more. Absolutely necessary in the 40.

I may have to look into extending the brackets in the 60 when I put new seats in.

Dont worry about the pics 89gashog i think i got the picture in my
mind on what they did to your seats. thanks for the info though

What kind of steering wheel and shifter do you have in there? Looks sweet.

Steering wheel says auto technica on it. It was like that when I bought it. I really like the feel, and smaller size, of the wheel. Also prefer the shifter to the stock T shifter for the look, feel and space it frees up. Sorry for taking two years to respond.:)

Just caught this thread while searching for a solution to not having enough leg room in my FJ62. After driving it for a few months, I'm realizing that it's killing my knees. My question is this, though... is it legal to modifiy the seat in this way? It doesn't break some sort of safety regulations? Oh, and what's TLC? I'm now considering finding some old seat brackets and welding my own solution, but I'd like to see if there's something commercially available first.

There are no laws broken (in the United States) by modifying seat brackets.

However, it "could" set you up for:

1) Civil suit by a passenger/alternate driver
2) Loss of claim by you,

if you were involved in a crash and the seat mount failed.

I know it's a far fetched idea, but I live and work in these gray areas all day long.....

Music, TLC is these guys: TLC

They are the folks who build the "Icon". Have you ever heard of a 100+K FJ40? That's the Icon. They also do Cruiser restorations and sell a few custom parts.
There's another thread on seat extensions somewhere in this forum in which a member created something very similar in their own garage. Since the new tracks are welded pieces that are bolted in the stock location, I can't imagine they're any less safe than OEM.
I suspect the shifter was a package deal along with the Autotechnica wheel since they match, but they were installed before I came along. This cruiser must have had some sort of Aussie connection because the rear bumper is an Australian unit as well. I do know that it was originally licensed in Hollywood. Wish I knew more of it's history.

I put Lokar gas & brake pedals in my 60 when the 5.7 Vortec & 4L60E were installed. Took a while to get the brake pedal correct relative to the gas pedal, but it ultimately gave me 3-5" more leg room.

The cheap-ass B&M shifter will eventually make way for a Lokar Midnight with the stock 60 boot & a Lokar gear indicator in the instrument bezel.

My idea was to take another set of seat rails and wack the brackets off. Then weld them on top of my seat rails just a little offset. Then I would have two handles on the front for adjustment. This way I could run the seats all the way under the dash when sleeping in the back and I would be able to go way back for leg room. When I looked at it, it would only add maybe a 1/2 inch in height. I have a spare set in a box somewhere in my garage waiting for me to do this idea under about another 1000 ideas. Anyone tried this or is it a bad idea?

Thanks, Gashog. I sent an inquiry to TLC. Crossing my fingers. But still keeping my knees far enough apart to squeeze into my Land Cruiser.

nice! i'm 6'8" and can relate to the "monkey humping a football". It's a bit of a squeeze, but i'm lucky my legs aren't super long for my height (torso is another matter).

If you don't mind me asking - what did this run? what did you ship to them (entire seat bottom...?) and how long till they got it back to you?

I was thinking of doing somehting like this. Or seeing about moving the entire seat mounts back 2-3 in.

thx!

As I recall it was around $200 or so. My seats were/are in pretty good condition, so replacing them wasn't a consideration. I had to send them my disassembled seat tracks only, and they were pretty quick at getting them back. Maybe two weeks max-which is pretty good for Alaska.
With the seat fully extended I now have more than enough room-somewhat amazing. If I bring them in just a bit from 7 footer territory, the rear seat cushion can fold forward-otherwise it doesn't quite make it.
