Found a few photos of a FJ45 with canvas/cover LWB. Just want to ask the owner if it was custom made for him or bought somewhere. If bought , were from. If custom made were. Also want to get a few more photos of it for reference. Thinking of doing the same setup. Anyone know this rig or is it yours?
Thanks

pm Georg (Orangefj45). I believe he did some work on this.

Yeah, I to belive its Pismo Oceano Dunes, spent some time there.
KT40, I will give him a try, thanks.

I posted those pics in my "1978 FJ45 rebuild" thread and I seem to recall the owner posted some sort of reply. It would have been early in the thread. If I get a minute I'll try and find it.

Thanks, out of all the photos I have seen this guy had the cover I would like to reproduce if possible. Hopefully I can get him to post some better photos of the cover and some info.
Again, thanks.

that cruiser was built by rob when he owned radd cruisers and the canvas top was built by a shop up in BC. nice work and very good quality, but he no longer does it. i tried.....
i did some mechanical work on the rig before we sent it to the owner on the east coast.
sorry i can't be of more help.

orangefj45, I appreciate your reply. I guess I will have to go with what I see in the photo and engineer the rest. We have a couple of decent tent and canvas companies in the local area so I should have no problems having it made. Rob's cover just fit's what I am looking for.

Thanks:cheers:

Great truck, one of the most fun trucks I ever built...

Company on the island built the top, you would not believe how many people asked for that top.

When I called them to make a few more, they made no templates....... one off:meh:

I drove to pismo almost 20hours, through oregon in one of the worst storms in years, high winds pushing me all over the highway. Thought for sure the top was going to come off the truck.

Once at pismo I checked it over, as good as new? Slept the next few nights in the back with big winds at pismo, one tough top..

George @ Valley Hybrids took the truck from that point and helped in shipping it back to a great guy in Boston, he went through it before delivery and sorted out all the little bugs...

Boston

I've been in Boston for 2.5 years now. I work in the City and travel daily to the various neighborhoods. I haven't seen it yet, but if I do I will do my best to get contact info and pass it along.

The 45 belInge to Billy W. He's a professor at Brown university iirc. He may be retired by now. Keeps the truck at his ranch out on long island. Very nice guy. Somebody I'd like to hang out with.

Ready for the cover

Thanks guys for the information that has been sent on trying to locate the FJ45 with the LWB cover. Good stuff.
orangefj45, maybe Billy W. will see this request and give me the information I need. But as for now my LWB is ready to except a cover.
Had some old Army deuce 1/2 bow corner supports a friend gave me so I just work around what they could do and this is the result. I now plan on waiting a bit to finish the cover so the box is next with paint and spray in bed liner.
Yeah put on the license plate that was in the truck when I bought it, must of been a pig rancher, or a cop from New South Wales Australia, my guess.
Anyone in OZ recognize it?
Thanks

It was a one off, got lots of emails to make more but the guys never made templates...

I should do a toyota trails article, one of the most interesting people I have met.

He would come to BC and stay with me for a couple days at a time, hang with me and the family. Every night he would have exactly two beer, smoke his pipe and read. We would talk over ideas for the FJ45 and make plans for the next few weeks.

He actually had a royal king in his class as well as JFK Junior in one of his classes...I do also remember him speaking of teaching Jimmy Carters daughter.

That man could cook, he made us authentic mexican food one night, probably the best I have ever had...

We became very good friends, I hope he and his family are doing well through this mega storm tonight.

I never got to meet Billy. Not yet anyways. But our phone conversations were memorable. Charismatic to say the least.

Email has been sent and awaiting reply. Due to the weather on the east coast one can wait for a reply and hope all is well.
It sounds as I have picked the right person to converse with, looking very forward to hearing from him.
Thanks
