So I am now looking at a 2001 Cruiser in Virginia. A long way away I know but so far everything else looks good. I think I will pay a local Toyota dealer to give it a once over for me before I commit to anything but I thought if there was someone on here that lives close and would be willing to take a quick look that would be great. Maybe its a long shot.

Also its a 2 owner rig. The auto check says it was a fleet vehicle for the first three years and 52,000 miles. Could this mean it was a lease vehicle? Or is it something I should stay away from? I have seen this on several different Cruisers' history.

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm about an hour away from the border of middle VA. If you find one around Charlotte, NC I'd be happy to help. I always avoid buying cars above the Mason Dixon. Too much salt.

x3. I'm in McLean. Once we know where the truck is we can sort out the closest [or set up a team intervention :-)]

I'm in Woodbridge, 20 miles south of Wash DC.

Not knowing what appeals to you about this vehicle, it is hard to judge. But I can't fathom why somebody on the west coast would want an east coast vehicle. While VA certainly isn't the rust belt, if it has been in this area for the last 13 years, I 'm quite certain you can find something better out West. There's always exceptions and maybe this one is spotless, but I would be surprised as it was a fleet vehicle. I personally would be willing to pay a couple grand more for a Western vehicle. Just my $.02. (and get hi-rez pics!)

^ This!
There's enough salt used on VA roads to make most 10 year old trucks a little crusty underneath. Taking this factor, plus the cost of transporting or driving the truck coast to coast makes a west coast buy a better option. There have been lots of threads recently with great buys in the west, particularly WA and OR if I remember correctly.
