I want to see know if anyone has this done? I am thinking about carrying a Benelli M4 with 100 round of buckshots and a Salvo 12 suppressor. A sig sauer p226 suppressed with 400 rounds of 9mm. I like to have in my suv all the time without taking it out the car. I checked out few car safe but they require to remove the 3rd row seat. I need that seat for my kiddoo.

The Benelli should fit as I already laid my M4 on the potential tailgate space during the discussion with @NLXTACY about his lock-up project. I would think you could also fit the Sig, or another full size pistol (like my 92F). No suppressors allowed here in Kalifornistan. Apparently Kal prefers eardrum damage...

About security of the tailgate project... I'm not sure any lock in the tail-gate storage would be truly secure...BUT...with a lockable rear bumper with swing-out tire carrier? You can lock that shut and that means it would be extremely difficult to get to the contents of any tailgate storage.

There is a company here in Southern Oregon call Highway product making tool box for working truck can make those, but I want something much more stronger.

Once you shoot suppressed you will not like to shoot un-suppressed. I used to go to the shooting range, now I shoot in BLM everytime just because I dont like the guy sound of gun fire without suppresed.

@BennyGP , nice selection of hardware. just a thought, do you need both sides of the third row? I pull the right side seat out, and leave the drivers side for the occasions where additional seating is required.

Are you storing anything else in the car, or just the guns and ammo?

Sadly, no suppressors are allowed for the proletariat behind the wire here in MA.

If they truly wanted what was inside, they would quietly unbolt the tailgate and take the whole thing.

Added a minor "FIFY"...

Good idea I think to pursue the tailgate cover. My 200 has a .44 magnum & ammo in the tailgate, and a PARA FAL in a bag in the back. But since both are in the back, there's also a lightweight Colt Officer's model in the front console. ;)

I think your issues go beyond storage.

9mm are for those that sit to pee.
You need a 40 minimum or better yet a 45.

A single Barrel shotgun??
No thanks Nancy!
You need the 3 Barrel, for when things go down.

At one time, I was big into .40. But with the advances in JHP these days, the differences in capability between 9mm and .40 in a quality bullet (I'm a fan of Federal HST) are negligible, and the 9mm provides less recoil with faster follow-up shots. And if you live in a free state, 9mm gets you a few extra cartridges in your mags.

As you can imagine from my handle, I used to be a big 1911 guy. But when I started timing my splits, I realized that the extra recoil of a .45 just really slows me down. When I was younger and stronger, it might have been less of an issue.

Finally, since I compete in the summer with a 9mm Glock 34, sticking with 9mm for carry makes reloading simpler.

Exposing my hypocrisy, I've owned my Glock 23 longer than my Glock 19 and I had a few initial issues with my 19. So I end up carrying my 23 more than my 19. But I anticipate retiring my 23 to the safe.

+1 for the Glock 19. It may be the Camry of the handgun world but it's a damn good carry gun, which I carry a 19 with a G26 mag concealed. I tend to carry IBW and having only a trigger-safe pointing at my goods is concerning but it would take an act of God for it to discharge.

As for the caliber debate, 9mm is significantly cheaper to shoot and I'm a cheapass.

Or steal the whole car.

Did you really just type, "Pee sitting down?" :hillbilly:
Come on...

-A well-placed shot from either does the job. Blasting away...counting on bigger holes is a poor strategy IMHO.
The marginally bigger .40 ain't gonna stop Big Bubba either if not well placed.
Two to the chest...and one to the ocular cavity if needed and Bubba is done.

One barrel not enough?
Tell that to Marines wielding the Benelli M4.
No need for more than one barrel with an M4.
-9 rounds as fast as you can pull the trigger with 00 Buck or slugs or both?
...One barrel does juuuuust fine.

You may now resume the trash talk... ;)

I'm not one to put down other' caliber choices, but since you "fired twice..."

I thought the triple-barreled shotgun was hilarious. I mean, REALLY? Clever solution, but what was the problem?

And the "sit to pee" comment did have me chuckling, though I'm sure we all agree that placement and quick rounds on target is more important when it comes to biped defense.

Please resume Zombie Apocalypse strategizing. :flipoff2:

You realize I did not say "sit to pee," right?

I was quoting his post. :hillbilly:

We agree.

PS. I'm a firm believer in careful training to develop skills rather than just hauling around some canon. It's amazing how much improvement in speed, accuracy and safety can be gained with careful skill building and practice in realistic simulations--especially in time-pressured, quality courses.
