Anyone Considering a Cummins R2.8 w/ HF55 Swap?

Size looks to be similar to the HX-30 turbo. I’m running the same X2 power battery. Great looking setup. What size exhaust is that off the motor? Looks like it reduces down to 2”.

Thanks! Exhaust is 2 1/2".

Looks and sounds fantastic. More importantly I had no idea there was a specialty cruiser shop in Montana. I can now add it in to the list of places for the "where can or cannot we move to next with :princess:"

Haha! Montana is a horrible place. You DO NOT want to move here. ;)

I'm thrilled by the amount of space there !

There's not as much room in there once everything is mounted/installed. There's extra space but not a ton. It's a nice fit overall. I'll try to grab some completed shots tomorrow.

Looks amazing! I'm near Sheridan, WYO. Great to know about that shop not too far away. I've been seriously considering this for my '87

Hey All,
Late to this thread. @cuwallace2 & @torfab Curious about current cost of installation with the H55? I've read different reviews and have had a few people quote me numbers ranging from $18-30k for the engine, H55 transmission & T-case. Theres a big gap in pricing, but sounds about right depending on the work. Thought I'd throw it out there to get the thoughts of fellow mudders.

Thanks

From what I have pulled from reading threads: $9000 for the engine, $2900 for the adapter kit (or was it $1900). $2500 or so for the new h55 with driveshaft mod costs if earlier cruiser. So around $15000 just in parts. If you can do all the labor and fab then it’s just how you value your time. If you need to pay someone for the swap then could be another $10k depending on the shop and how much prep work you can or cannot due. Like if you can pull your own drivetrain out before dropping it off that should save you some shop cost. Etc etc.

I compiled a list of everything you need, and the parts will cost more than 15k. With zero labor, the parts cost is around 21k. Here's a breakdown

I drove up from Riverton to meet Steve at Overland Cruisers. I bought his conversion for the H55F and split transfer case and the mounts.
I had my 2F flywheel resurfaced in town and got a HD clutch out of Australia that is a Terrain Tamer product through Cruiser Brothers. I have it installed in my FJ40. Will need new drive shafts because of the H55F and split transfer case. The 2F bell housing is in the same location as it was with the 2F or 155F.

Thanks for sending some business our way!

Looking forward to your updates and “first impressions” when you get the cruiser back on the road.

George,
It has been slow going between work and money to spend. I am working on the cooling package now I have a 4 core direct replacement radiator and after straightening out the support it fit just fine with the new shroud and 16 e fan and mounted a Frostbite intercooler on the support. Then found out it had to be moved back so I could install a bib. I got it moved back and came up with a way to adjust the plumb of the cooling stack.

But the cooling problems have been nagging me I have read about and my elevation is at the starting point they start to get hot on hot days, with the e fan so I ordered an 18" mechanical fan kit and a v8 shroud.
