Events/Trails Anybody interested in going to the PUERCO on Sat 2/8?

Stephen is a classic case of a good student who is learning to read the terrain and work with his limitations. As they say, a good offroader is 90% driver and 10% vehicle and the Van Man is a great example of that. Good job Stephen for making the rest of us look bad! :flipoff2:
Van Man did a great job. if he starts carrying 4 recovery boards , he can bridge those steep dips. He would increase his range even more. We also discussed his need for more air in his front tires for off roading. The Van has so much weight over those front wheels, with the motor right above the front axle, that 20 lbs does not support that weight on a downhill dip. Pictures posted soon. 24 lbs might be better. He stopped ATV traffic when we aired up. Guys were checking out his van. Giving thumbs up.

Pics from Puerco ride. David lifts front tire.
Sarah watches next to Danny's truck.
Paula holds their cruiser in place, while Stephen watches Grant move forward.
Juan and Grant climb narrow difficult wash.
Danny appears to stand on Grant's roof, while entralled spectators can't believe their eyes. Even dogs doubt this could be done!!!

Juan and friends working on blown CV joint. Need to separate the outer hub, so the wheel could be reinstalled. they were suscessful and Juan's 4x4 could get home with 3 legs.
Danny drops in.
Recovery boards help the Van from stuffing its nose into the ground of the steep washout. Worked like they are designed to be used.
Best invention since sliced bread, in my opinion.

This sums it up... I’m always happy to muddy the waters and make inappropriate recommendations

Sorry about the carnage to the cv Juan! That was a pretty gnarly cliff to climb...so close!
Juan did have his bad day, that happens to us all, eventually. But he is a mechanic and we all pitched in to do some work and he got his CV joint out and made it home on three "legs".

Can those of us that don't run IFS get some education here LX450JC.

What broke, and what was the solution?

@lurch provided this slo-mo, which is so much less violent than this seemed from the driver’s seat. 3 yr old Rosa’s comment is epic!

The MaxTraxx are on my list of things to get. Overland Expedition (on youtube) uses these extensively as well.

Passenger side CV broke and I couldn't drive it home with that shaft moving around inside of the inner housing. Inner housing needs to stay inserted as it keeps the differential fluid in the front diff and the outer needs to stay on as it holds the hub together so we had to remove the shaft from the outer housing since it had already removed itself from the inner housing. Hope that makes sense.

If it’s 90% driver and 10% vehicle, imagine what I could do with this one!

Thanks for the ride Jeff!

FYI, Danny is said to be moving back to California sometime this month. He's the founder of Local Yotas Truck Club in LA and we will definitely stay in touch.

Sorry to hear Danny is just a short timer here. Lots of fun. Hope he keeps in touch. He was here only a short time, but he will always be the "Donut King" from California.

I assume you had a spare CV shaft?
