Maroon rustoleum. Looks pretty decent at first but fades to pink in about a year.

I sanded everything down first.....

Tack cloth then 2 coats of primer...light sand...

2 coats of "navajo white"- in gloss.

I used about 8 -10 cans per coat for the whole rig.

after a year I could tell a bit of fade...I attempted to buff it and it came out nice...
The best part is touch up after a full weekend of wheeling.:clap:

Thanks for the compliments on my rig too.

dont know if it has already been mentioned? A little trick is to put you spray can in a cup, or pot of hot, but not boiling hot water before spraying. It helps the paint atomize and will lay flatter with less chance of seeing overlap.

I took my first cruiser to the Napa store in North Pole Alaska and they had some sort of scanner they held to the side of the vehicle and were able to make me a dozen rattle cans that matched the factory color pretty good. I wish I had pictures of that vehicle. I drove it from Panama City, FL to Fairbanks, AK in December 00' it was slow but got me there.

Rattle bombs

If you go to a auto paint supply store they usually can pump any color you want in a can even factory match colors that will outlast any Krylon or Rustoleum part # .If you don't mind touching up or redoing every year it will work but once you get too much paint on it will peel off.

In my store we have system that can pump activated urethane
single stage and clear coats in a can (exactly the same material professionals put in there guns) and the cans will put out a nice fan pattern but they cost more money.

If your plan on painting a lot its more cost effective to buy a gun and shoot the paint through it . A good single stage urethane in white costs around 80 to 100 dollars (128 fl oz) + activator 40 dollars (32 fl.oz) reducer 10-15 dollars (32 fl oz) = 1.5 gallons. there is only 3.56 fl oz of actual paint in a rattle can the rest is reducer and propellant. we sell
auto grade cans for 8-20 dollars depending on whats in it.To do a complete you would need a lot of cans.plus cans don't do horizontal surfaces very well.

just my .02

Its a PITA to get freaking coverage over the black specks here and there i got on it from painting the cage and sliders carelessly. took like 4 coats!

Should be two pics?

Joe Egolf - Great looking cruiser! It's amazing what everyone is pulling off with some gumption, creativity, and what appears to be some patience ;)!!

Such a great way to preserve the life of a truck, make it look better, and not worry (as much) - and all for a fraction of some paint jobs!

I think we all know that a gun would be a better PAINT job.....
Its the $ factor here.
You also failed to throw in or mention the price for the air compressor that one will need to use your paint as well.

Besides:hhmm: .................this thread is ALL ABOUT RATTLE CAN JOBS OUT THERE LIKE THE TITLE STATED.

Rattle can experiment:
++++++++++++++++++++++++==========

my cheap Tacoma rhino-like fail.
was already fawked when I bought it used...

gonna do the whole in flat sage next spring when its warm enough again, cause it goes camo with enough MUD!!!!

Rustoleum 4-5$ a can at Lowes, cheap rhinoline ripoff underneath but not primed nearly enough, or paint-coat sealed at all...

===========================================

anybody have a good recomendation for a good rattle-can sealer/sealant?:grinpimp:

or better yet, what have people used for faux-rhinoline that has worked???:eek:

gotta go get camera/photos...download to come,,,,:clap:
