Any performance increase with headers only?

I've been tempted to install these 6 to 1 headers on my 1fz 100 series but I'm questioning whether it'll make any noticeable difference. They're about 300$ and local

I've got the cx racing header on my supercharged 80 and it went on with a 3" exhaust. I think the combo helped quite a bit but can't provide dyno numbers. I have 2 more stock motor 80's, one pure stock plus 33" tires and the other pure stock with 33" tires and a header (can't remember the brand off hand, but I know it's nla), the header 80 is quite a bit stronger and quicker. Not sure if the difference is from something else, but it could be all from the header.

The benifits of most headers are mostly at rpm above 3000, and with open exhaust. Do you rally your rig?

I'd say if you matched it with hi flow cats and all new pipe it'd help. Remember, our rigs are knocking on the 3 ton door, with an i-6, never gonna be a powerhouse. Every little bit helps though. I still have e the stock exhaust manifold, but ran the magnaflow downpipe/cats, all new 2.5" pipe and a flow through muffler and it helps with the lower end and around town.

Sure looks nice. No clue if it would provide any performance gain, but from my honda days: 4-1 header equated to more high end power, 4-2-1 (aka tri-y) equated to more mid-range and throughout the power band. If you get it, I would get it ceramic coated :D

I'd put a header on my LX, but I don't want to make it loud.. I'll save my pennies for a supercharger

It's shiny...of course it will make it faster...oh, and you'll get 20mpg! :grinpimp:

The exhausts main restriction on the 80 isn't with the manifold but where the 2 header pipes merge into one. The pipes on the stock exhaust are squashed to together. Getting rid of this restriction definitely gains bhp on the butt dyno.
Its less of an issue on the 100series as Toyota redesigned the exhaust, but for $300 I go for the shiny :)

Is anyone running headers without cats? Cats are not required and the truck doesn't have them. I need more power due to my altitude 8200ft with travel to 14-15,000ft. Not ready to put a turbo on the 1fzfe, but if a header and larger 3" exhaust will give me more torque I'm in. My speeds are relatively low 60mph max. Any advice? I can have headers and a 3" exhaust built for $250.

I feel like 3" exhaust is too big for a naturally aspirated 1fz-fe. The goal of a performance exhaust is to minimize restriction/turbulence and improve exhaust velocity. Too big a diameter for the engine, and you will have minimal restriction, but slow velocity... a combo that would probably result in improved top-end power a loss of low-end torque. Not what you want if you don't drive over 60mph. This is just my opinion, but I do believe that 2.5" is the best diameter, and the stock toyota exhaust is really pretty much ideal (just swap out the muffler for a high-flowing version of your choosing).

My $.02
