I don't know if the oem ones are any better but I will say joining the "club" to buy the windows is like drinking the cool-aid to ride the comet, all you get in the end is screwed!

So after yet another frustrating attempt to get the windows in a relented and called an auto glass company for help. Today they came out said" you won't be mad if this goes rite in will you" hell no I won't be mad. So they quoted $45 per window. I GLADLY agreed and off they went to get tools etc. Hour later they said "well have to come back when we have more time" oh and they retracted the $45 and said this will be time and materials. Great still no windows. I'm thinking I'll have them put the OEM windows back in and wait till Kevin at Wagon Gear starts building the flip out windows and go that way.

The OEM sliders go in way easy compared to SOR sliders.

I agree on the OEMs, but the AUD has risen over USD nearly 200% in the last couple years as well. And that doesn't solve the problem at hand.

Not sure it would be wise to drive around with hatch style cargo windows open. :D

Many thanks for the update. I may hold out too, I sure like the idea of sliders.

I got the SOR sliders and am really happy with them. I ordered the new single piece rubber molding with them. Installed in about 20 min each. I use the pull cord method with a guy pushing from the outside and pulling the rubber molding around from the inside with the pull cord. LOTS of glass cleaner sprayed on the rubber and window edge for lubrication, otherwise the rubber just binds right up. Don't worry about excces fluid from the glass cleaner, it wipes right up. They look great too, and my Rhodesian Ridgebacks can now stick their heads out and get some fresh air. IMG00279-20101230-1623.webp

THOSE LOOK GREAT!!!! OK so I think I have a few issues. My first being that the sliders I got from them are g lawrence??? They don't even look the same. Second would be that I have two black dogs and I clearly need atleast one brown one to make them fit.

c-pilot-

Please put up some more detailed pics of the sor sliders...inside shots, latches, close up of the trim/seals, pics of the windows open, full side profile of the whole vehicle...you get the idea.

Very encouraging to hear someone had a good experience with the sor's. What do you think of their overall quality & finish??
How much flattening of the welded rib did you do to get the frames to lay in flat?

Really want a set of these, but discouraged by a few comments, probably from the earlier versions.
Go get your camera!:bounce:

p.s.: Still don't understand why sor had these tinted....some don't want tint at all, some want it black....typical goofy vendor decisions.
Would it be possible to strip the tint, or is it part of the glass....OR...could aftermarket tint be laid over it to match the rest of the vehicle??

Hence the word pilot, I am away from home for a few more weeks. I looked at the almost 200 pics I took of the restoration, but unfortunately no inside slider pics on my computer. I was very happy with SOR. The slider is a one piece aluminum frame, it was surprisingly rigid. My original window moldings were cracked and crappy . The ones from SOR were in a Toyota box. OE. The sliding window is in good quality felts, I think the window could be a tighter fit, personally, it will move kind of up and down, but it doesn't move from whatever position I put it in. So if I leave it open only 2 inches it stays at two inches all day. No screen! Big disappointment about that. I have an idea about glueing velcro around inside window frame and having a removable screen. I wanted tint, and this is dark to see in but I can see out and have great visibility. I will email home and see about having my wife go and take a few pics, and will try to get them here.

SOR- do it!

I got the windows for my 30th birthday! I love my wife!

I didnt install it. Mudrak did when I had him rebuilt my carb. he didnt charge me- very nice of him. It does not leak! I have it open all the time for my two Labs. I use it more than my IPF headlights....

i dont have many photos of my truck. Im going to start taking more so I can post pics of my rig more often

"I think the window could be a tighter fit, personally, it will move kind of up and down, but it doesn't move from whatever position I put it in." Does that mean it moves in the window opening or does it move in the frame of the slider. Mine don't fit in the stock opening. I actually ground 1/8 inch off the outer flange of the slider and it still doesn't fit exactly and that's without the gasket in place. Did you have to straighten the pinch weld also?

for tat2matt - the glass moves in the opening, just a bit. I had no issues the pinch welds on the window opening. I don't recall about the size of the whole slider unit in relation to the window opening. I do remember wishing I'd sprayed more glass cleaner as a lubricant in the groove of the gasket BEFORE I installed the slider unit in the rubber gasket. Then I slid the whole unit against the upper edge of the window opening first. I slid the top in first because I wanted to minimize the damage to my new headliner which as you know wraps around the top edge of the window opening. Then with Scott pushing from the upper outside we worked the gasket around as I pulled the cord out. Hard to describe if you can't see it. There is a lot of working the inner lip of the window gasket to smooth it, and pull it up and around the steel window lip.
I've asked for better pics from home, will see how they turn out and will post them to a link. I can say that there is a tremendous amount of binding and resistance between the aluminum slider housing the rubber gasket and the outer window edge all at the same time. I can't stress enough, the rubber gasket needs a lubricant, and glass cleaner is clean and residual free and works like a charm.
