Another rear bumper thread

We can easily make them again, problem is few people want to pay for them. At last production time, ours was around $1500. I can make another batch, but would like to get some pre-orders. We might also do a little better on the price if I know they are pre-sold. Turn around probably around 45 days or so.

Hi Christo;

Do you have pix of your new design? (Your website says the new design is centered, etc.)

Is your design bolt-on, weld-on, or both?

What does the bumper weigh?

What do need for a pre-order?

Thanks,

- Rigger

Here is a pic of my truck with a 4+ bumper. I ordered it unpainted to save a few bucks and just primed and painted it flack black. I really like the design and it is way beefy. I had them switch the tire mount to the right side (personal preference). It usually comes with tire on left, cans on right. (2 NATO cans, 48" high lift (a 60" will fit), and a BFG A/T 33x12.50x15 on a stock rim.)

You do have to remove the rear cross member (what a bitch) and all the rivets for the rear body mount (another bitch) Then all the rivets are replace with Grade 8 hardware.

 Looks nice! Do the swing outs have locking pins on them? Also, did the bumper come w/ the light and rear plate bracket?

TIA-

The bumper does not have any pins to lock it in the open position just the lock down to hold it shut. The plat bolts to the can carrier and the light does not come with it. Mine is a NAPA special I think it was 7 or 8 bucks.

What's the advantage of making a batch, rather then making them to order? Lower costs?

I have the 4+ first gen bumper and like it, you do have to remove the x-member though. The one thing they need to upgrade is the latch similar to what Hanna or Slee put on their bumpers. Mine does have a bumpstop.

I think Christo nailed it. The demand for 60's bumpers isn't high and most owners don't want to drop a $1500 bumper on an older rig. Hanna wanted to build me one but I was the only one knocking on his door with a cash deposit in hand, it just didn't make sense for him to build one, he's doing fine building for the 80 series.

I would use the few small fabricators (or MAF) that have replied in this thread and soon, the market has shifted away from the 60 to the 100 and 80 series.

Hey Christo,

Does your bumper have provisions for a can carrier, or was it a tire swing out only?

The bumper is complete bolt on, except for removing the stock side brackets on the frame rail. Also on a FJ60 you need to notch the cross member.

About 120lbs. on the weight. For a pre-order I would like to have 5 paid to make another run.

are you going to make some kind of public service announcement or what? maybe it would be a good idea to start a list kinda like kevins. i'm just afraid that i'll miss the announcement and end up being six or eight guys back. man, your bumpers are like crack. i need my fix.... keep up the good work and weld. i like the no price increase. you rock!

All the parts are made in batches to reduce cost. The setup time is what drives up the cost. If you have to set the press brake for 1 bumper, it is the same as the time for 5 or 10. Bending 1 vs 5 vs 10 is a minimal difference in time. Same with all the punching and Plasma work. Assembly and welding is about the same. Powder coat is also cheaper by the batch.

I would love one of your bumpers... been a fan from the beginning. My only problem is time, I would like to buy/have a bumper by June. I'm moving up to AK this summer and don't want to pay shipping costs for a bumper up there. If there's a chance you can have a bumper built by June... I I'll be on that like white on rice. :)

Makes sense... more bang for your buck!

Lots of pictures here. Slee - Toyota 60 Series Land Cruiser Rear Bumper

The changes are the tire is centered, the hub now has an aluminum screw on cap and the pins are upgraded to 3/4" pin made entirely our of stainless steel.

Also, the license plate light is now mounted on the swing-out.

Also, the truck in these pics had a body lift, hence the gaps in the back below the tailgate

I like that tire carrier. Hmmm. As long as we're discussing things, what are the tires on that '62?
