Hi all, I'm David from Southeast AZ, recently bought a '77 fj40. Attached is a pic of it- it's totally stock and original, showing 55,000miles on the Odo, but i'm sure it's probably 155,000, based on how worn out (frayed) the seat belts were prior to me r&r'ing them. I'm the 3rd owner, after the 2nd PO recv'd it from a family friend to resell at his Classic used car lot after he displayed it in his showroom for awhile, and got tired of it leaking various fluids on the floor, LOL. It's spent it's life on a farm, being periodically serviced by an independent Mechanic, but was cosmetically neglected. Luckily, being a high-desert dweller, the only rust I've found so far is the rear floor area, and some under under the drvr's seat, but not severe. I am enjoying cleaning it up, replacing what is worn out, and just generally refurbishing it. Now that I'm retired, I have a lot of free time to spend doing this, as much as the wife allows LOL! Looking at possibly joining a club. Not really interested in rock crawling. Please comment, or let me know if anyone out there wants to talk about 40's, etc.
Where in SE Az are you? I'm in Sierra Vista.
Talk away about LC's or 40's... You are in the right place! If you want to join a Club, Copper State Cruiser's is where you are now... You should consider joining this group...
Well, here's some more (unsolicited) pics of my 40, for anyone that's interested. Today, I got two things accomplished- tightened up the rebuilt steering box side adjustment screw, which did wonders for reducing play. And got the hot idle speed set right. Next is wire brushing all that rust in the rear as shown in the pic. Thanks to all who welcomed me.
