Update.

So I’ve got the truck running again, yay!

It turns out there’s a copper coil hidden inside an immobiliser ring, which is wrapped around the top of the ignition barrel. This ring activates the chip in the key (which is programmed to the ECU. This coil had been broken off by the vandal. The coil has been replaced by an old Corolla part (I couldn’t get an original).

Although the truck is running, I still have to replace the broken steering lock but at least I can drive it now.
