Hey all you Payette veterans-
Do you think a stock Ram 3500 would be a suitable vehicle for this trail? Or would it just be too big?
Got a friend who recently got his first Toyota 4x4, but it's not running yet and he wants to see how we wheel. So the only 4x4 he has is his buddy's Dodge.
Otherwise he's riding shotgun with me.

My vote would be shotgun, the 3500 part is the problem, they don't flex and that's not good on a trail like this.

He might be challenged if stock, but we could probably get it through. This one was lifted and not a 3500, but was BIG. What size tires? He could always take a bypass and ride if it turned into more than he wanted - you go out the way you go in and the trail is relatively short w/ lots a bypasses.

I am trying to find a pic of this same dodge guy about a half mile further up the trail, at the base of the small right angle "steps / waterfalls" where his body and cab were triwsted about an 1 1/2" opposite each other as he turned and climbed at the same time....

I think I know what you are talking about, but look at the line at the botom of his rear window in tha pic above for twist reference.

I forgot that thing was a crew cab - jeez look at how long it is...it dwarfs Alvins 80 in front of it. Oh - and I hear a rumor we may have 2 full size Blazers with us that day as well:D

Would said weather affect the travel plans of a certain blue 40 affiliated with said Chevy?

this thread has over 1750 hits! can we hit 2000 by next weekend?

Just an FYI , there is another group that'll be camping and wheelin up there the same w/e......

Pyeatt Draw 8/30 - TTORA Forum

And it sounds like you want the same camping area just past the first crossing of the wash?

We are hittin the trail about 10 AM. Group prolly about 12-15, Toy mini's, 4runners and Geeps.

I put a 33" tire, 1 locker limit on our group cos there is alot of water in it and it is changed quite a bit with this years monsoon and winter rains.

Now that is a great group to camp / wheel with!!! AZROCKS is allways a good time!

Actually, I think there are probably plenty of camping spots along the road next to the trail and 2 big areas near the trailhead.

It is a popular trail! It sounds like it'll be a challenge this year!

The one thing about Payette, there wil never be a shortage of places to lay a tent down...some are just better than others. Based on Sy's group thread, the ttora group it is going to be huge. Maybe we are better off going down the trail a bit farther if they are going to fill up the first section.
How many are up to camp this weekend from the CSC?

It is a very popular trail considering it is not published too much. It is also under fire from the forst service. I good friend of mine in Payson is in constant contact with the forest service up there and hears about what a mess it is so please keep it as clean as we can.....

There are alot of camping spots up there near the draw. I'm not sure how many in my group will actually show up, you know how that is. Plus I got a few coming in RV's that will be camped out by Houston Mesa road.

BTW, it rained all night up there so there will be alot of water up there as well.

Well, I'll be coming in Saturday AM - I'll meet the group at the Maverik - I'm not bringing my mother camping...

This was a relatively secret trail and has been spotless every time I've been there. Word is getting out, I hope it hasn't gotten messed up. We need to do our best to minimize impact and pick up trash, I'd hate to loose this one.:hhmm:

:princess: and I will be camping Sat night and possibly Sun night as well.
She can't get off work Friday night.
I'll camp just about anywhere. If no one else is camping Sat, maybe we'll just head up to the rim and scout out some other trails.
Hell, maybe we can have some kind of run Sunday as well.
