Hey all, I fully understand this could be taken as a passive aggressive post or misconstrued in some way. It’s certainly not meant to be and hopefully it will help a lot of the newer 200 series owners navigate some of their questions.

When searching MUD there are two ways to go about it. One use the internal search function, I have found this to be inferior and never quite get what I want answered quickly.

Second approach is good old Google. Ask your question or topic in the Google search bar and end the phrase with ih8mud. This will generate an incredibly accurate hotlist pertaining to you search topic. I can almost promise 95% of questions can be quickly answered with this strategy.

It’s far more effective and way easier to navigate. The new found interest in this platform is fantastic! Ultimately, it should add tons of value for all of us.

If anyone has anything to add please feel free!

Cheers to you all and Happy Holidays!

Google sucks too though.

Every search has to be site reddit these days to get anything real.
dont get me started on quora.

I’ve made it work for the past 12 years.

Me too, still waiting for apple search vaporware though.
Lot of people like bing too.
Its an ad fest on google though. Same with amazon now.
You have to navigate around all that these days.

The Google tip is great! I have used Google and found things on MUD I didn't find searching in MUD but I have never thought to add "ih8mud" to the google search. Kind of a "duh" moment for me but I bet I'm not the only one. Even if you had started with "Hey dumb a$$es..." it would still be useful information. Thank you!

one tip for the internal search function:
use the little checkbox for "Search titles only"

I’ve used that technique for years searching Mud. I assumed everyone did. Good call on your part to not assume that. I bet this will help lots of members.

DuckDuckGo here. I just add site:ih8mud.com to the end of my search terms.

Or you could get clever and use the 200-series subforum address to get only 200 series results…

The problem with any of this is there is the header post is rarely updated with the solution. So even if your search comes up with a hit, you have to vet out the accuracy by reading down through several pages. Understanding the savvy of different users can sometimes shorten this. Also sometimes reading a thread backwards can help.

I also say just ask again, its a forum after all, not a wiki.

There are threads going on older than I am. Things may have changed a lot since the search result.

is there a way to access "bookmarked" items? I am getting OLD I guess.

On the forum there's the FAQ thread. But that isn't always cleaned and pruned with the most current.

You can also create your own, building over time:

I’ll hit the “watch” button on threads that have info I’ll need later. I will also create a folder of bookmarks in my browser and change the name of the bookmarked page to “transfer case washer part # X” for example.
