There's too many variables for us to give you a definitive answer on that question. I do feel it's on the high side but still in the ballpark. With used vehicles, it takes a few years to fully realize if you got a good deal or not.Is $35k a decent price for this? i think i can ask to lower to maybe $33 or so.
Please give me some advice. thanks
Some things I consider when analyzing value.
1- Condition. Has it been well maintained AND treated kindly?
2- How easy is the purchase? Is it across the street from a reputable seller or is it across the country from an unknown source.
3- Maintenance. What work has been done and what will it need in the next 20k or 50k miles?
4- Color. Is it my first, second, or third choice.
5- Price. How much am I overpaying versus what savings did I get?
In 2018, I overpaid for my 2005 100 series by about 10%. KBB was $12,500 and I paid $14,000. Damn I miss pre-covid prices. Rust free, very well maintained, one owner family vehicle, that was a simple fly and drive. I felt i got a fair deal and it turned out to be super reliable so I was happy overall. A buddy of mine bought a 2000 LX in late 2019 for $6k. He thought he got a smoking deal. Rust issues led to ripping out AHC and he had to replace the engine. He spent as much as I did in the end. And it's still rusty.
September of 2024 is when I bought my LX. It's a 2013 which had 87k miles at the time. One owner, dealer maintained, first choice of colors, and rust free from Dallas. Out the door price was roughly $31,800 which doesn't include state taxes as that's variable between states. It was obvious that it was a family car as the rear seats had car seat wear and there were small dog hair still in the cracks of the seats. Other than the regular wear and tear you'd expect from kids, the LX was in excellent mechanical condition and looked new underneath. Original radiator was in place although it was showing signs of needing replacement so I put that on the list of things to do. By the time I drove it 2,000 miles home, I think I had an all in cost of about $35k. I feel I got a great deal on this one even if I did need to replace the radiator.
Moral of the story, what's it worth to you when you factor in what you want and what you need?
