Unplug the battery.
Take then halves apart. Blow air, use contact cleaner, add dielectric grease. You can also scrub with a toothbrush or similar.

This is exactly the approach I’d take.

Get everything clean and dry. And don’t power things back up again until you it’s bone dry. Check for a water line and try to inspect everything that was at or below that line.
