@Jdc1 this outer rocker is a bitch. Maybe 1/2 too short between the flanges, I had to cut the 90 at the back of the floor pan to get it close. It still is not quite right. View attachment 1329254 View attachment 1329255 View attachment 1329256

Ran out of cut off wheels for the grinder.

Personally this picture scared the crap out if me. This is what I will need to do in the future.

The inner rocker seems to be in place like it should, maybe a fuzz short, but it measures out the same as the other side.

Sometimes you just need to walk away from s***, come back later.

The floor pan wasn't really too hard, it is the rocker panels that have been kicking my ass. After tackling the rear section of the tub I have learned enough to feel comfortable with the work up front.

At least I think I can outsmart a piece of metal.........

When you were fiting the rocker panel did you have the door mounted in order to make sure it lined up?

No.

That is going t next step tonight. I have been thinking about this problem since last night, seeing as the measurement on the passenger side is the same as the new rockers I have I am wondering if there was some damage that caused the rocker to be misaligned somehow.

I also have a piece of angle iron welded across the door opening so that it did not shift once I cut the old rockers out.

Bodywork is SOOOO much fun. Add in aftermarket parts and it becomes a party.

Here's a pic of my '77 Bronco. I replaced 85% of the metal. Thought I needed therapy when I was done because I was talking to myself so much trying to line all the panels up and get the doors and hardtop to fit correctly.

Yeah, tonight I was planning on bringing up the hardtop sides and doors to put on and see how the lines match. The hard part might be relocating all of my temp bracing to allow for the top and doors to go on without any interference.


There is that lip on the inner rocker I need to deal with also, and the outer rocker has a lip that I need to figure out a way to fold it over and crimp it down TIGHT.

It looks like I need to bend 2 small pieces to weld into the main beam area before I get too far on the rockers, I should also spray something on the inside of the main beam to help protect it from rusting from the inside out.

Monstaliner should be on the doorstep today.
Epoxy primer, activator, and cleaner should be there tomorrow.
Body filler should be in next week.

I need to get body work done before it gets cold, I don't have much of a way to keep the garage warm when winter sets in.

GSMTR is coming, that is my goal.

Thanks for post this.it still a ways off before I get to that point .but you are helping take some of the mystery out of it.i need to replace the rear differential and then do some work on the brakes before I start on the metal work

I put some of my 40 together tonight, windshield frame, hardtop sides, door and hatch headers, and the drivers side door. Once I had everything on and bolted tight I pulled the rockers and floor pan back out. Using a ratchet strap I pulled the cowl back towards the rear section just enough that the outer rocker fit in place, the door lines looked good, and I didn't notice any alignment issues. It looks like I will have to notch the front of the floor pan where it meets the front pillar to allow the rocker to sit behind it and the pillar to be in position. I am going to continue to tweek some things before I tack anything in place.

Looks like you've got this figured out. If you reassemble the quarter and bolt the outer rocker to the a and b pillars, will that help to hold it in place. Great work by the way.

Loos like I need to trim a fuzz under 1/4" from the front of the floor pan. I would really like to cut it on the shear tomorrow at work, but with the flanged side and the ribs I am going to clamp it down and hit it with the cut off wheel.

Is the weatherstripping on the door? Without it you can throw off your door and panel alignment. This can even happen when you go from original stripping to new stuff.

Yes the door has the weatherstripping on it right now, the windshield frame and hardtop sides do not have the WS under them tight now. The windshield frame is the one that concerns me the most right now.

For some reason I had trouble with the windshield frame wanting to come back to bolt to the door headers. I had to really pull back on it. That much pressure without the weatherstripping underneath worries me a bit. After I had the frame bolted to the headers I loosened the screws for the hinges and pried up on it a little to adjust it.

That will be part of the tweeking that is to come.

Trimmed the floor pan down this morning, cleaned everything up to shoot some weld through primer.

2 cans of SEM copperweld weld through primer from Summit racing.

Neither one works. Talking about coming to a screeching halt.

I called customer support, they are shipping 2 more cans on Monday. There are things I can do still in other areas, but that is a heck of a way to slow the roll.
