Yeah, I understand that. I may have had 24 in my sill and quarters. Maybe.

And that is a home garage, basic tools, drinking beer.

We would have left it there but they were unwilling to provide a firm estimate on finishing the body work and getting it ready for paint. I have a hard time believing that a 40 isn't a straightforward restoration.

and here I thought you were finely tuned in your beer selection.

I am very selective in my beer choices, if I can see through it I won't drink it.

When you started the bodywork, did you have any experience welding?

Not in the past 15 years. It is pretty simple to learn with the right direction and equipment. I'll shoot you a message later this evening.

You are doing an awesome job on your build and after seeing your body work I've decide I have to teach myself to weld!

The best part is that I KNOW what has been done, not just hoping the body guys did it right. Most guys I talk to have had their body shop guys sitting on their projects for months, if not years. I may not be the fastest but I know it is getting done.

I will have a ton of tools that I didn't have before, and still come out paying a lot less.

I couldn't agree more by the time I'm done I will know every nut and bolt on my 40. A lot of things take me longer because this is my first time. Some times I end up doing things twice but hey it's the journey not the destination!

I find it therapeutic to work on the 40 in the quiet of the shop. I don't drink beer since I left Germany 41 years ago, just doesn't have the same taste. I do like the taste of Shinerbock but gout is always an issue with beer these days. Never pass up a good root beer though.

It's called body shop hell for a reason.

I don't, often, use a body shop - but I do have one that is really good. He charges a very fair price, but that fair price is a lot of money - especially given the junk I build.

I was trying to finish up the front rockers today with hopes to work my way to the rear of the tub. Didn't happen. Ran out of wire for the welder just before I finished up with the inner rocker.

Afterwards I came full circle in a sense, I set the engine to #1 TDC, pulled the dizzy I am going to run, put another in its place, and adjusted the valves.

If you remember that is how the whole rebuild started. I was just trying to adjust the valves.

I pulled the dizzy I want to run on this engine and the carb so I can send to a fellow named Jim in Ohio. I hear he has a special ability to make magic happen on carbs and distributors. I am going to call tomorrow and see if I can get in line!

I didn't get much work done this weekend on the 40 but I did manage to get the kids out and practice casting a fly rod. One step at a time.

X2 on running from bears especially as they are building up fat reserves for hibernation

Beautiful kids, beautiful setting and pics and a great Dad to take them out...Life is good.

Fabbed up some back supports for the lower barn door hinges this weekend, welded in place and on to the next part.

Found some rust on the d side barn door.

I also took a break and hit a local trout stream, I didn't spend much time fishing.
Some a$$hat city dweller and his 4 kids lack the common courtesy to take a few steps out of the stream and pass me by. Instead the jackass lets his kids toss rocks and walk in the pool I am actively fishing. WTF, really?
I'm only talking a 10X20 foot pool, super low, clear water. He doesn't even try to get his kids to change direction, just lets them stroll right in front of me while I am casting. No apologies, no "sorry my kids blah blah blah", nothing. F***ing clowns think the world revolves around them and their sense of self entitlement.
