My finger in the picture is pointing towards a garden sprinkler head. I tapped into the rear window washer line near the water bottle and ran a hose to the front of the car, attached to the garden sprinkler head. The back wind still gets good pressure and twisting the lever now sprinkles the tranny cooler and rad with water (just like the Subaru rally cars) complete gimmick but ever extra bit of cooling helps when its 50 degrees outside.

I had a similar set up with a hilux windscreen washer nozzle on my old 105 for the water to air intercooler heat exchange, and I found that after a while of using it, and driving in some dusty conditions, the dust was turning into hard mud, in the core of the cooler. I don't know how much dust you are driving through? But that's something to check out every now and then. Sand probably doesn't settle as much as dust does though.

Dust dust? what is dust?

oh wait is that what all the other vehicles behind me experiance :grinpimp:

*Because the cruiser spends 99% of the time driving on beaches and sand less than one kilometre from the sea it gets a very thorough wash on a weekly biases including the radiators, all the running gear and underside gets a soap and high pressure wash, as well as the body and all the nooks and crannies that are breading grounds for rust.

gunney, I had mine 'rust proofed' and that was the best thing I ever done. I only do a full wash once every two month or so unless I physically drive through salt water.

ZERO rust!

and yes, sand will settle in but not the 'beach' sand, more towards the deeper side of the desert. :-) then again, you take care of your baby sooo mmmuuccchhh

Have you seen the way I abuse my princess?
Actually you have, when you ran out of fuel :D

She takes a beating but I need to do some TLC on the underside, getting rid of current rust, primer and undercoat.

My wheel arches are now bare aswell, the tyres ripped the plastic covers off so I need to deal with them ASAP.

Maybe thats what ill do this friday :hillbilly::wrench:

p.s. I have all the bits I need to do my duel battery setup QAR 500.00 later  and now I have to go drop QAR 1000.00 on an optima.

oh and there is no such thing as Rust Proof, only rust resitant.... its like bullet proof vs bulletresistnat... with enough of them NOTHING is bullet proof :p

My old man decided on Thursday night that he was bored and decided to go and trawl the car shops (I was out and the ladies dont like to climb into the cruiser without running boards so I had stolen his FJ) :p

Anyway he managed to find a second hand FJ roof rack for about $100 so he bought it on the spot and then didnt have a way to get it home.... so in true style, he bought another $100 roof rack for the cruiser to bring his one home! :grinpimp:

The cruiser rack he bought was an aluminium rack with plastic corners, surprisingly strong at that price, but it had crazy wind noise and just reminded me of those Fez’s the little carnival monkey wear. So his is how it arrived:

And 20min later with a trusty angle grinder and spanner and it was looking MUCH better!

Now I just need another hour free, some acid etch primer, some krylon, 5 x Hella 550’s and I’ll be a pretty happy man. :hillbilly::wrench:

p.s. I cant get over the fact that it looks like amy has a crew cut! :)

This is coming along nicely, and enjoy all the great pictures.

Hey... I decided to ditch arb rack. However, arb dual compressor is installed! Tire up from 15 to 30 psi in 20 sec.
I will get a cheaper rack soon. Do u have ipf lights? What model?

Hey I will see u at the crf 450 day tomorrow. Am going to bring my baby wid me.

God I hate your hood ornament.

Loving the work your doing.

Rob, am afraid mine is even worse,,, got gold plated grill and ornament! The locals here consider all gold plated things as 'special'. Early influence of the Indians and south east Asians on the region. I hate those gold things and even worse the side stickers they put on da cars. I just rather waste money on other stuff at the moment! I will post pics of my baby soon.

If i take it off i have a gaping hole in the hood!

The truck will get a paint and some body work next year. Ill ditch the hood ornament then. :D

This weekend, the front DM can come off and the 4x Hella 550's I bought can go up instead. (just need to see if there is space for 4 or 5)

Ill be honnest I was looking for some big IPF's and i did consider a rigid light bar, but when I got the 550's home I was pretty impresed with thier size and quility, they may be old school but there is NOTHING wrong with a good old fashioned hella halogen.

Amine missed the CRF day, went camping with some firends before the dunes got crazy over Eid and with the camps.

Get an cheep rack like my one and we can cut it down, you really dont need anything else.

With the roof rack fitted it was time to get my spots up higher and further back. (and get the damage multiplier off the front.)

Good quality spots here are hard to find, Rigid is about 30% more expensive than online, you can’t find IPF and all the KC's are round so it was back to trusted Hella and their 550's, 5 of them to be exact.
My only issue is the seal where the bulb meats the housing is terrible, I used some high heat gasket silicone to give them a really good seal to keep the dust out.

There isn’t much to fitting some of these so there aren’t many picks, when they are all wired in ill do some final pics of the install.

getting the spacing right.

drilling some holes (when drilling alu make sure you use a centre punch and pilot hole or your all over the place.) I got all of them in a line and then the very left one slipped down a bit.

4 x fitted and then my buddies called and told me to stop being a hermit and to come for a braai in the dunes....

one of my friends dad visiting Qatar on the quad (needs more safety kit, but it wasn’t my place to tell him)

yank tank did very well, it suffered with a low entry and exit angle but made up for it with crazy amounts of power. (we took it pretty easy)

Raptor 700 SE? Or YFZ 450 SE?

Looking great man. I would love to be able to go downtown and find roof racks and random items on the cheap like you guys do. I guess the extra expense of lights and whatnot sort of negates the savings, but it would be nice to have those kinds of options, thats for sure.

I went out to the dunes last night for a braai with some friends, its Eid here (like Islamic new year’s, xmas and Easter all rolled into one so there where hundreds of people out in the desert last night)

Long story short I ended up stepping into a spot of sand that had had a big fire under it and burnt my foot to the point that I spent last night at the hospital.

The only person who could drive me home was a 23 year old south African girl who was with me, she hadn’t driven in 4 months, had never driven a LHD, had never driven a 4x4, had never driven in the sand, and had never driven on the wrong side of the road, BUT..

At 1 am in the morning with me close to tears with my foot in a cooler box of rapidly warming water she got in the cruiser, had a 2 min briefing on high range, low range, differentials, approach speed, entry angles exit angles, the gearbox and tyres, and proceeded to impress me like never before.. Shocked

She drove me in Amy over 100km through the dunes in pitch blackness! When we got out of the dunes about an hour and a half later she had a crash course on how to use a compressor.

Popped the bonnet, connected everything up, pumped up the tyres, and then stormed past the beach resorts security guard and into the lobby, and came out 2min later with a huge bag of ice (I’m sure the short shorts and long legs helped Wink ) and drove me another 150km on the wrong side of the road in effectively rush hour Arabic traffic back to the city.

The women in my life really look after me… both ladies where absolute troopers and the only damage by the end of the night where two small dings in the bonnet from the damage multiplier (SURPRISE!) after a hill even I didn’t think we would make it up.

Id like to thank the universe for south african women
Id like to thank the universe for land cruisers

It could have been a very different story without both of them.

The ladies:

...little did they know what was going to happen in about 5 hours time.
