I went out to the dunes last night for a braai with some friends, its Eid here (like Islamic new year’s, xmas and Easter all rolled into one so there where hundreds of people out in the desert last night)
Long story short I ended up stepping into a spot of sand that had had a big fire under it and burnt my foot to the point that I spent last night at the hospital.
The only person who could drive me home was a 23 year old south African girl who was with me, she hadn’t driven in 4 months, had never driven a LHD, had never driven a 4x4, had never driven in the sand, and had never driven on the wrong side of the road, BUT..
At 1 am in the morning with me close to tears with my foot in a cooler box of rapidly warming water she got in the cruiser, had a 2 min briefing on high range, low range, differentials, approach speed, entry angles exit angles, the gearbox and tyres, and proceeded to impress me like never before.. Shocked
She drove me in Amy over 100km through the dunes in pitch blackness! When we got out of the dunes about an hour and a half later she had a crash course on how to use a compressor.
Popped the bonnet, connected everything up, pumped up the tyres, and then stormed past the beach resorts security guard and into the lobby, and came out 2min later with a huge bag of ice (I’m sure the short shorts and long legs helped Wink ) and drove me another 150km on the wrong side of the road in effectively rush hour Arabic traffic back to the city.
The women in my life really look after me… both ladies where absolute troopers and the only damage by the end of the night where two small dings in the bonnet from the damage multiplier (SURPRISE!) after a hill even I didn’t think we would make it up.
Id like to thank the universe for south african women
Id like to thank the universe for land cruisers
It could have been a very different story without both of them.
The ladies:
...little did they know what was going to happen in about 5 hours time.
